  1. Domestic wastewater treatment using Vetiver Grass Technology < Dong Thap Province

  2. Domestic waste water from these crowded re-settlements is currently discharged to adjacent lower grounds, along the embankments, creating stagnant, polluted ponds during the dry season. This represents a serious health hazard to the local population and causes damage to the environment Due to annual severe floodings, many villagers were resettled to new villages on raise grounds.

  3. We will plant Vetiver Grass along such an embankment. Due to its deep, extensive root system and its ability to absorb large amounts of pollutants such as Nitrogen and Phosphorous, the grass act as low cost, efficient green filters, removing these pollutants from the water before it is dispersed to the ground.

  4. The grass will also act as soil stabilizer, preventing erosion of the embankment. The project is being carried out in cooperation with the University of Can Tho. The cost of the project is AUD 2000. This technology has been used in Australia and many other countries around the world
