SCHEDULE OF THE DAY 2:00 - 2:30 pm - Registration 2:30 pm - Gather in the Sanctuary 3:00 pm - Workshops 4:15 pm - Plenary MINISTRY WITH YOUNG ADULTS Theology, tools and tips for effective ministry with the Millennial generation. Led by Eddie Erwin, District Lay Leader and Youth Director at Lakewood UMC. SOCIAL MEDIA How to better use social media for effective ministry. Led by Rev. Mark Brown, social media expert and member of Lakewood UMC. CHURCHES IN TRANSITIONING NEIGHBORHOODS A conversation for churches experiencing neighborhood transitions. Led by Christian Washington, the Director and Teaching Pastor of Upper Room Community at Chapelwood UMC. A specialist on strategic planning, leadership development and church revitalization. PRAYER A new rotational model of praying for each of the district pastors in a 90 day cycle so that each pastor receives an abundance of prayer support. This workshop will include ways to pray for the pastors. Led by Rev. Patty Bergfield from Cypress UMC and Rev. Terry Teykl Prayer Consultant at Faithbridge UMC. KEYNOTE SPEAKER Dr. George Hunter, III is one of the country's foremost experts on evangelism and church growth. He'll share his expertise during the plenary session of District training. From his most recently published book, Should We Change Our Game Plan?From Traditional or Contemporary to Missional and Strategic, he'll share new approaches to the way churches do ministry. Dr. Hunter is a Distinguished Professor of Evangelism and Church Growth. He served at Asbury Theological Seminary as founding dean of the E. Stanley Jones School of World Mission and Evangelism. He has authored many books, including, How To Reach Secular People, Church for the Unchurched, Leading and Managing a Growing Church, The Apostolic Congregation: Church Growth Reconceived for a New Generation. Dr. Hunter and his wife, Ella, have three children. TRAINING FOR SPR, FINANCE & TRUSTEE CHAIRS Rev. Morris Matthis, District Superintendent will lead this workshop to equip and answer questions for first time chair persons. EXPLORING VIBRANT CHURCHES This workshop will delve into the message that Dr. Hunter will share during his keynote address. Church leaders will come to understand the origins and landscape of the secular climate of our culture and look at ways to re-focus efforts in mission and evangelism toward reaching people for Jesus Christ. Dr. Hunter is one of the foremost experts on church growth and evangelism. ADOPT-A-SCHOOL Churches partnering with local schools remains a focus of the CN district. Mentoring is a priority, optional ideas for churches to get involved with their local schools will be shared by Betsey Young of Cypress UMC, Membership Director at Cypress UMC and her Education Mission team.
