  1. Leonardo da Vinci

  2. I only knew him through the art aspect and wanted to learn more about his works in science. It amazed me that one person could have so many talents. Why i chose leonardo da vinci VS.

  3. Born April 15, 1452, in Vinci Italy. • Has always been known more as an artist not a scientist. • He spent a great amount of time studying science out in nature or in his workshop cutting up bodies and pondering universal truths. • “If all his work had been published in an intelligible form, da Vinci’s place as a pioneering scientist would have been beyond dispute.” - Dr. Jeremy Britton Introduction

  4. Da Vinci greatly affected the science world through his studies in anatomy, physics, and engineering. Anatomy Physics Engineering thesis

  5. His reason for studying anatomy was so that he could accurately portray the human body in his paintings. Main way of studying was through dissections. He was especially interested in studying the female body. anatomy

  6. In his drawings he showed how the muscles stretched and moved. Detailed drawings of the skull. He wanted to show the arrangement of bones and muscles. One of his most well known drawings was the Vitruvian Man. Anatomy CONTINUED

  7. Da Vinci discussed the perception of growth, proportion, and emotions of humans. First to carry out an autopsy. Anatomy Continued

  8. Da Vinci connected his drawing of the Vitruvian Man to fit with physics along with anatomy. Discovery of the Divine Proportion He had drawings of a complex scuba suit. He was enthralled by the thought of flight and completed many drawings and attempts to succeed in flight. Also designed something similar to a car Physics

  9. Intrigued about how objects and people funtioned. He understood that the speed of a falling body will speed up over time. He stated that two bodies of water equally distant from Earth’s center will not move surfaces. Physics continued

  10. Most of his ideas were written in journals. He wrote in what is called mirror writing Engineering

  11. He was very interested in the idea of flight. He had several designs for military machines such as machine guns, cluster bombs, and different plans involving humans and horses. Engineering Continued

  12. “Leonardo da Vinci’s approach to science was an observational one: da Vinci tried to understand a phenomenon by describing and depicting it in utmost detail, and did not emphasize experiments or theoretical explanation.” –Richard McLanathan Da Vinci knew he could make a difference in many subjects including anatomy, physics, and engineering, and he most definitely did leave an immense impression in the future. Conclusion
