Unit Plan Summary: The student will demonstrate knowledge of ancient Greece in terms of its impact on Western civilization by completing the following: describing Greek government, mythology , religion and daily life; evaluating the significance of the Persian and Peloponnesian Wars and compare these wars to modern day wars/conflicts; characterizing life in Athens during the Golden Age of Pericles; citing contributions in drama, poetry, history, sculpture, architecture, science, evaluating the significance of mathematics, and philosophy, with emphasis on Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle and explain how this is used today; explaining the conquest of Greece by Macedonia and the spread of Hellenistic culture by Alexander the Great. Students will be able to cite examples of ancient Greece’s impact on the Western world.

Gauging Student Needs Assessment • Purpose of the Assessment • To gather information about what students already about the contributions of Ancient Greece and their impact on Western Civilizations • What I want to learn from my students? • I want to find out what they already know about the Unit Questions • How I have tried to promote higher-order thinking? • I ask students to find relationships/comparisons and to draw conclusions on various aspects in the daily . • How the assessment information helps me and my students plan for upcoming activities in the unit? • We will revisit this assessment throughout the unit for students to add their knowledge. • What feedback or additional ideas I’d like? • I would like help on my assessment. I think I need to elicit more higher-order thinking skills while still meeting the SOL requirements.
