  2. How is the treatment done?? The goal of a termite treatment is to apply a termite product to the area immediately below and around your foundation. Foam can also be applied to wall voids to control termites there. The treatment can either work as a barrier with the goal of keeping termites away, or as a “treated area” through which termites travel and are eliminated. We feel treated area termite products work much more effectively. Metro Guard Termite Control Products First a very important statement: We are not compensated in any way for promoting products by any manufacturer. If we speak highly of a product it is based on our experience and published facts.

  3. What We Recommend and Why: Choosing the right termite control product is just as important as choosing the right company to perform the work. Not all pesticides work the same, cost the same or produce the same results. A product called Termidor became available to us in 2000 which has faced some of the toughest tests in history. For over 11 years, Termidor has been tested in four states under the USDA-Forest Service ground board and concrete slab trials. At every application rate and every location, Terrmidor proved 100% effective. Termidor is the first termiticide to go through these requirements. Metro Guard has access to all products on the market. After doing research on Termidor, training with their representatives and listening to testimonials, Metro Guard decided to use Termidor exclusively for over 10 years. Now we have our own facts and comparisons: Our re-application

  4. Our re-application (retreat) calls have declined • The product has no odor • Termites are eliminated quickly from the structure • Termidor has provided excellent product support • Water soluble packs make handling safer How Does Termidor Work? The active ingredient in Termidor is fipronil and it works differently from other termiticide active ingredients. Most termiticides are repellents, which means their goal is to keep termites away from a treated area, rather than killing them (these repellent termiticides can also kill termites). However, since the termites are repelled when they come in contact or just before contacting the treated soil, the effect is less complete. In addition, the repelled termites will look for a new way to return to its food source. If they find a “gap in the treatment, they can return to the treated home or office. Termidor is non-repellent.

  5. Termites can’t detect it. Since they don’t know it’s there, they forage freely in a treated area not aware that they are contacting the lethal ingredient. Like other leading liquid termiticides, Termidor is lethal to termites when they ingest it (which they do readily since they don’t know it’s there). But, unlike all other termiticides, Termidor is lethal by contact as well. Once a termite comes into contact with Termidor, they carry it back to the colony on their bodies. As we discussed in the Termite section, termite workers eat cellulose material and exchange the food and nutrients by mouth (called trophallaxis) with colony members including the King and Queen. Termite workers also groom each other resulting in the transfer of soil, wood particles, fungal spores, and chemical pheromones that maintain the social organization within the colony. It is through these processes that Termidor infected termites can transfer a lethal does to termites not entering the treated area. Also, every other termite it contacts will itself become a carrier, contacting and infecting others. This can be called a “transfer effect” Termidor – 100% Results After Ten Years Termidor works quickly and effectively. Government and other tests in the US and abroad have shown that in over ten years there have been no breaks or reduction in Termidor’s effectiveness. We are confident that you can count on many year’s worth of 100% termite protection when you contract Metro Guard Termite & Pest Control to treat your home with Termidor.

  6. Why treating wood or mud tubes does not work! Termites live underground and probe blindly through the soil looking for food (most cases wood). When they discover your home or building they are very persistent and find ways to get back to or stay in your home. Just like ants find your sugar bowl if you move it from one counter to the other. Termites can build a mud tube at the rate of 1 inch per hour. If you destroy the tube (breaking it off or spraying pesticides) they may build it back or they may find a better entrance to your home. If they find a better entrance and that entrance is out of sight, you may think your problem is gone. In reality, you still have termites. The same concept applies to treating the wood. While this is possible and may eliminate the termites in that area, they more likely will find other wood to eat. Treating the soil under your home is the most effective way to eliminate Subterranean Termites.

  7. Pictures of a termite treatment in process: Here we pulled back the carpet and drilled around the wet bar area. Drilling or wall foaming is required around plumbing areas because the pipes provide access through your foundation and moisture. Termite product will be applied to the soil using this hole. Not treating all plumbing areas would be a mistake. After the termite product is applied to the soil under your foundation using these holes, they are then plugged and sealed. The area is now fully protected from termites. The carpet is tacked back to the floor and the area is cleaned. We try to disturb your home as little as possible and we keep our work areas clean.

  8. Here we are treating the soil under the foundation at the side of the home. Each trench is filled with termite product, the product seeps into the ground, then the trench is backfilled with treated soil. We are using foam around the windows here. The foam will expand inside the wall void and protect these windows from termites and ants. Foaming equipment is one of several tools we use to provide the best termite protection.
