  4. On your sheet: • What is a foundation? • Organization that is established to maintain, assist, or finance other institutions or programs that are of an educational, charitable, or social nature.

  5. Camps • Why do young people participate in camps in the summer? • Develop skills • Interested—no time during school • If hosted by celebrity, they think they can “get their foot in the door” • Why do parents like them? • Personal lesson with superstar • Location • Get rid of kids for the week?????

  6. Camp Expectations • What can families reasonably expect? • Will the camper actually work with Superstar at camp? • Superstar may only give a short welcome speech or only work with advanced campers. • Superstar may not even be there at all! Only agreed to endorse the camp

  7. Location • Is it just a spot to drop kids off while at work • Convenient and close to home • Learn the basics of the sport in an unthreatening environment • Or to learn advanced skills from top athletes • Some adults will fly their child across the country to get this experience. • Should keep in mind • Campers safety, adequate facilities, well-trained coaches or councelors • Childs comfort

  8. What would draw more attendance to the camp? • Your ideas…

  9. Ways to enhance camp’s potential to be successful… • Strong promotional campaign: • Involvement of athletes • Testimonials • Strong media coverage

  10. Things a camp can do to advertise services… • Variety of media and methods: • Radio announcements • Local TV ads • Contests • Press releases • Interviews • Giveaways (t-shirts, sunglasses, etc. w/ sponsors) • Community appearance

  11. Difference b/w camp and clinic… • Clinic— • Shorter time frame • Concentrate on 1-2 skills • Introduce a sport to beginners • Lower costs • Another name would be a “workshop”

  12. Targeted advertising… • Magazines & E-zine • Read by enthusiasts • Greater audience • Need greater lead time for magazines • Mailings & Brochures • Direct mail—expensive; but, sent to researched group of customers—more success

  13. Back Side… • Create a camp ON YOUR OWN • Use the class period to finish

  14. Tuesday—Create “camp” brochureMake it good—put some time & thought into it • Should include AT LEAST: • Name of Camp • Dates • Times • What will they learn? • Testimonial(s) • Other important information • Age groups • Sample day? • Type of Camp • Location • PRICE • What do you provide? • Meals included? • Need to bring equipment? • Sponsors should be listed somewhere (if you have any)
