  1. Kyra Williams Pr.3 Affective Disorders and Manic-Depressive Disorder

  2. Section 4-2 is about: • Certain types of disorders that cause many emotional pains or problems. Throughout these three disorders, their effects are all particularly common and different in most ways.

  3. The Main Idea • Affective disorder is an emotional disorder that deals with a persons feelings and emotions. These emotions have become extreme and interfering with the persons daily life, disconnecting them from some activities and personal lifestyle.

  4. The Disorders and Examples • Clinical Depression: a disorder in which a person is overwhelmed and is unable to carry out everyday activities. • Ex: Change in appetite, change in sleep, loss of energy, feelings of worthlessness. • Manic-Depression disorder: a disorder in which a person shifts from one emotional extreme to another, for no apparent reason.

  5. Disorder examples Continued… • Ex: The person may act overexcited and restless on the same day. That person might go on a wild shopping spree or reckless driving could occur. In between such the periods of moodiness, they may start to act normally. • These disorders are important for the class to know because, if this ever does happen to someone, they would recognize the symptoms and try to figure what’s best to counteract it.

  6. Story Example Ever since Jacob left to war, Chrissie couldn’t keep herself together anymore. She stopped eating, quit her tennis practices, and never showed up to work. Everyday she mopes and cries in her bedroom or the living room and then becomes infuriated for one moment, then restless and normal on another. So far she hasn’t suggested for any help since she believes that she is perfectly fine and healthy. Her friends have worried that she may be under a serious mood disorder, Clinical Depression, and decided to contact a physicist for help.

  7. Topic and Key Points • What I think about this topic is that its very interesting to know about and I feel that understanding these different kinds of disorders not also help and fill our knowledge but show us what they are and how we can help the people affected by them in the best way of treatment. • Some key points I want other students to know are: 1. If a sign of one the symptoms appears to a person, lend a hand and help them out. 2. Talk to them to comfort them from release of any wild reactions 3. Understand how that person feels and, if needed, call a doctor or physicist for further advice. 4. Learn more about the disorder and its signs, symptoms and effects for better knowledge in present and future terms.

  8. Summary In conclusion, this very short section was about only a few types of affective disorders. These disorders affected mainly the persons emotions either internally, externally or both. From the two common disorders, the effects were all different, but truly alike in many ways, as in signs, symptoms, and effect towards their personality to their lives.
