Dynamo International BACKGROUND • A BIT OF HISTORY Dynamo International was created in March 2001 (NGO as from 2004) by the non-profit organisation « Dynamo AMO  » - a Belgian association providing support to youngsters in open environment - to give an international dimension to the work realised by street workers. • STREET WORK’S FEATURES • No universal theoretical framework in this area • Innovative approach focused on proximity : work in close contact with populations living in street situation • Values​​: a strong ethic based on respect and tolerance for the benefit of those most excluded

Fight against poverty and social exclusion: the invaluable value of street work Street workers are often front-line witnesses of a situation that is constantly deteriorating, particularly in times of financial crisis. • The issue In most large European cities, the number of children and families in street situations has increased considerably. • Promoting social inclusion and coping discrimination People living is street situation have the right to be included in society and to be given the opportunity for a new start in life. • Holistic approach to social inequalities Life in the street is not just economic poverty. Cultural, environmental, educational and political factors play a major role and must be addressed.

Dynamo International WHAT WE DO • Coordination of the International Network of street workers (PROGRESS programme): exchanges of practices on street work; training activities for street workers; advocacy actions on EU and international level. • Lifelong learning and Training:for, with and about street workers - based on needs analysis, grass-root group and individual work • Development cooperation and awareness raising:development education and sensitization actions in southern countries, in open environment with street children and youth in difficulty. • European Voluntary Service and International Mobility: targeted actions to support the youth international mobility and promote active citizenship

PROGRESS Work PlanKEY ACTIVITIES 2012 • Advocacy initiatives at EU level • Responding to Commission consultations on poverty issues (child poverty, active inclusion, social services) • Influencing national and local governments on child rights of street children • Information and communication • Dissemination of information and development of communication tools (website, publications, newsletter, mailing) • Organisation of events: Roma people and Street Work (EP, 16 October), Brussels Freedom Festival (18 October), International Pilot Group meeting (22-27 October) • Capacity building and methodological tools • Production of methodological guides on community and collective street work • Running of European projects (Roma people, male prostitution) • Establishment of the Street Work Training Institute • Based in Lisbon, Europe-wide (and beyond) dimension • Training workshops: social participation, human rights and vulnerable populations, social marketing • Network development • Membership to international and EU platforms (CRIN, EAPN, Social Platform) • Building alliances and liaising with relevant organisations (e.g. PROGRESS networks meeting)
