  8.  It has consistently outperformed benchmarks such as S&P Financials, S&P 500 (SPY), and the MSCI US RIET Index. It maintains a much larger market capitalization than its competing REITS. Other financial institutions that invest in agency mortgage-backed securities cannot offer the same payout ratios or dividends as NLY. With interest rates at multi-year lows, NLY's dividend appears safe for now. Risks do remains, however.
