GSMAP 2007 and beyond • Establish Priorities to work towards a Boundaryless GSMAP where we come together as ONE to : • Connect the unconnected in our region; • Applaud each other for our achievements; • Share our Best practices and to learn from each other; • Improve our value proposition to the end users; • Contribute in a meaningful manner towards the overall goals of GSMA;

  8. Priority #1 – Secure the Proactive Engagement of the Operators in GSMAP • Launch of Web site for GSMAP • Establish key contact points • Communication of GSMA initiatives • Communication of Working Group led initiatives • Inter- Regional Interest Group Discussions • Check the pulse

Priority #1 – Continued.. • Launch of Web site for GSMAP with multiple avenues for active engagement of the Operators such as : • Interviews of the Top Management of operators • Show case the first in the region achievements of operators • Formulate a mechanism to show real time the subscriber additions in the region • Set up Chat rooms for Employees of the operators community to discuss concerns relating to their given discipline such as HR, Technology, Network Planning, Marketing & Sales, Business Strategy, Legal & Regulatory etc • Set up Webinars to discuss hot topics • Establish a “Future Today” forum to predict the future in latest initiatives in technology, products. services and regulations adopted worldwide and reward the “out of the box” thinking of employee of the Operator community.. • Solution corner for operator queries with the undertaking to respond within 24 hours of a query being directed during working days.

Priority #1 – Continued.. • Establish key contact points of every operator for the following area of activity : • International Business • Network Planning & Development • Network Operations • Product & Service Development • Human Resources • Sales & Marketing • Business Strategy • Finance, Credit and Billing • Legal & Regulatory • IT & Software

Priority #1 – Continued.. • Communication of GSMA initiatives Establish a process to communicate all initiatives taken by the GSMA to the Operator Community on a periodic basis. • Communication of Working Group led initiatives – • Establish a process to communicate all initiatives taken by the GSMA to the Operator Community on a periodic basis • Dedicated Session on the key working groups to be held at the bi annual GSAM Meeting

  12. Priority #1 – Continued.. • Inter- Region Interest Group Discussions • In consultation with the other Regional Interest Groups to establish a process to share best practices and initiatives adopted by each other. • Check the pulse through the continuation of quarterly surveys

Priority #2 - Knowledge Building & Thought Leadership • Take initiatives to fulfill the Exposure & Development requirements of the Member operators at an affordable fee than the prevalent market rates. • Establish Expert Groups within GSMAP • Create a comprehensive and Objective Knowledge base

Priority #2 – Continued.. • Active participation to fulfill the Exposure & Development requirements of the Member operators at an affordable fee than the prevalent market rates. • Collate the exposure and development needs of the Member community and come up with an Quarterly plan to address the key exposure requirements • Establish a resource pool of experts from the member community for each area of activity and discipline. • Formulate a series of GSMAP led seminars and conferences to address the training needs

Priority #2 – Continued.. • Establish Expert Groups within GSMAP • with the objective of providing GSMAP members with a regular flow of information on major developments of significance • Create a comprehensive and Objective Knowledge base with the input of from experts and research organizations :- • Data base on Statistics • Data base on topical issues in the industry such economic impact of mobiles, what mobile industry could do to improve social inclusion/bridge the digital divide, NGN regulations etc.

Priority #3 - Augment active contribution of the Member Community to the Agenda of GSMA 2007 • Direct Market Intervention Initiative • Content specific Issues initiative • Bridging the digital Divide & the Reduction of TCO initiative • Mobile Money Transfer Initiative • Promote the IP regulations initiative

Priority #3 – Continued.. • Direct Market Intervention Initiative • Obtain the Operator feedback on country specific issues where GSMA could assist the Operator via direct market intervention process of the Public Policy Committee of GSMA. • Content specific Issues initiative • Encourage the active involvement of the initiatives taken by GSMA in content related issues to facilitate best practice information and sharing

Priority #3 – Continued.. • Bridging the digital Divide & the Reduction of TCO initiative Increase operator awareness and participation in: • Emerging market handset initiative to catalyse the creation of a new ultra-low cost handset segment – wholesale cost of mobile handset is as low as US$ 30/- • Drive for reduced taxation – Emerging market taxation study • Drive for a regulatory regime that is conducive for competition and long term progress of the industry – individual market engagement

Priority #3 – Continued.. • Mobile Money Transfer Initiative Enable millions of typically “unbanked” poorer migrant workers to access very affordable remittances through the GSM Mobile system. • Position operator community as leading the way to help these poorer migrant workers and in so doing secure recognition publicly • National distribution and regulatory issues will be handled by operators. GSMA will provide assistance / guidance as appropriate • Involve in pilot programmes by operators to speed understanding and support

  20. Priority #3 – Continued.. • Promote an IP regulations initiative : • Build awareness among the operator community and liaise with operators globally on implications and possible risks

Priority # 4 - Eye on Hot Topics Building Awareness and effective resolution where applicable of issues affecting the strategy and operation of the business • Identifying the list of region/industry specific burning issues . • Discuss and debate the approach to address such concerns • Communicate the findings to GSMA and lobby GSMA where applicable • Continuous de-escalation of Roaming charges in the region • IP regulations and the readiness of operators • Emerging Market handset initiative • Catalyse a new, less complicated and affordable 3G market - Launch of 3G Handset • Impact of competing technology as low cost solutions

  22. Priority #5 - It’s important to have Fun • Organise Talent Contests for employees of the GSMAP Operators. • Organise Events to Reward & Recognise specific achievements and contributions made by the operators to the region and the industry
