IRCSET • Providing funding since 2002 • Funded by the State under the NDP • Budget allocated through the Department of Education and Science • Postgraduate Research • Postdoctoral Research • Small number of project-based grants through involvement in European initiatives, such as Eurocores and some European Research Area Networks – providing PhD/postdoc positions • The majority of our annual budget is spent on Postgraduate Scholarships

  3. Post Graduate Scholarship Scheme 2009 The Award • 2 application calls every year - January 2009 and June 2009 • All awards commencing in October 2009 • € 24,003 per annually • i.e. €16,002 maintenance to scholar + €8,001 additional costs including Fees, consumables etc.

  4. Post Graduate Scholarship Scheme 2009 – Duration • 3 year Scholarship for a Ph.D. • 1 year Scholarship for M.Sc. (by research). • Continued funding in each year will be dependent on the submission of a satisfactory progress report.

Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme 2009Eligibility Open to students, with the appropriate qualification wishing to obtain a Masters or Doctoral degree by research Scholarships must be held at recognised third level institution in the Republic of Ireland The competition is open on an equal basis to all EU candidates with a quota of 10% for non-EU candidates

  7. Application Process – Key dates 2009 competition • Apply via online system www.ircset.ie • Call 1 opens January 2009 • Call 2 opens June 2009 • Calls will remain open for 8 weeks • Awards commence October 2009

IRCSET is emphasising the need for applicants to nominate a supervisor at an early stage of the application process. • IRCSET REQUIRES SUPERVISORS TO REGISTER THEIR DETAILS  ON THE ON-LINE APPLICATION SYSTEM • ONCE THESE DETAILS HAVE BEEN SAVED TO THE SYSTEM, POTENETIAL APPLICANT MAY SELECT THEM  WHEN MAKING THEIR APPLICATIONS.
