Defining the Word Inference • We can INFER the meaning of inference using the previous slides. • It means to reach a logical conclusion based on information presented in a text. • The author sometimes won’t tell us something directly but instead will expect us to figure out, or infer, it. • Inference=reading between the lines

  8. Inference Graphic Organizer On your paper, draw a chart like this with at least five spaces underneath the titles: As you read the story, fill in the first column with five quotes. They should come from places in the story where you are forced to infer something.
