Where Does Stress Come From? • Stress can come from any situation or thought that makes you feel frustrated, angry, nervous, or even anxious. • Stress is a part of life- everyone feels stress from time to time. • Stress is sometimes made worse by negative thinking. • As the end of the semester and final exams approach, students may begin to feel stress.

  4. Stress Can Be a Good Thing! • A little bit of stress can keep you on your toes, ready for any challenge. • Examples of good stress: • The feeling you get right before you shoot a foul shot in a basketball game, that helps you to concentrate a little harder. • The feeling you get before you take a test, that makes you study longer. • The feeling you get when there is an accident and you have to step on the brake quickly to avoid hitting the car in front of you.

Divorce Death Moving Losing a Job Conflicts with Others Broken Relationships Too Many Things to Accomplish At Once Failing Grades When Can Stress Become a Problem?Stress becomes a problem when the “feeling stressed out” feeling sticks around for long periods of time or effects your everyday activity. Things that may cause this type of stress:

  6. Signs of Bad Stress • Anxiety or Panic Attacks • Sad or Depressed Feelings • Health Problems- Headache, Stomachache or Chest Pain • Problems Sleeping • Drinking Alcohol/Doing Drugs • Mood Swings

  7. What To Do if You are Stressed Out? • Try to sleep at least 8 hours a night • Eat Healthy and Exercise • Plan ahead to avoid feeling overwhelmed. • Listen to calming music • Talk with someone who you can trust (school counselor, teacher, coach, friend, mentor, parent, etc.) • Think Positively! List the things that you are thankful for! • Try to RELAX!

  8. Final Exams • What you need to remember as the semester ends: • Study many days in advance to avoid “cramming”. • The more you prepare, the less anxious you will be. • Before and during finals, remember to BREATHE! Taking deep breathes can help you focus.
