  1. Today globalization is changing: The sharing economy is changing the way we do business. Millenials are entering the start-up race. Digital innovations are changing the way we work and socialize. Social innovation is making businesses think about inclusion. In this new world, how do professionals continue to stay in the game? We believe collaboration is key.

  2. What is collaboration, really? Collaboration makes us recognize the wonders outside us, helps us improve the end result, strengthens relationships, and ultimately makes the soul grow. And whatever makes the soul grow creates lasting change in us, as professionals and people. So how do we go about it?

  3. Understand the other Our society and workplaces have become very diverse. To succeed, one needs to truly understand the other’s strengths and point of view. At work, there are many teams that refuse to take inputs from other teams because they aren’t perceived to be cool enough. For more balanced growth, this attitude has to change. Everyone’s reality is just as legitimate as ours, if we examine it.

  4. Integrate them into your work It is not enough to understand the other. One must also strive to integrate their strengths into one’s work so that we can develop a more enhanced end product. For example, if your team is struggling with database management and another team is actually better at it, you shouldn’t hesitate to get their help to do it. The end product will be richer and it strengthens the relationships at work.

  5. Showcase successful collaborations Did you pull off a successful collaboration program at work? Showcase it. When more success stories get published, more people are inspired to change their default setting from “My way or the highway” to “Our way.”

  6. Throw things open for discussion The best way to find the better answer to a problem is to sometimes just throw things open to debate. Call for a meeting, order some pizza, and discuss the problem in an external environment. You will be surprised at how people open up, what kind of new points of view emerge, and how good thinking gets galvanized!

  7. Communicate constantly One of the barriers to collaboration is communication. When people build walls instead of bridges, fresh ideas go out the window. Encourage various teams to meet often. Build collaboration tools like chat and in-house social media to encourage people to share ideas and opinions. Most importantly, rewardpeople who collaborate well.

  8. Of course, the best example of collaboration is nature. Oceans, trees, flowers and bees – all collaborate seamlessly to keep the system running. This is because they have no ego and only worry about the evolution and maintenance of the ecosystem. It’s the same with collaboration. Let your ego take the back seat. Then the soul is allowed to grow!
