  2. What is MSDN AA? MSDN Academic Alliance (MSDNAA) is designed to provide the easiest and most inexpensive way for universities to make the latest Microsoft software available in labs, classrooms, and on student PCs. MSDN AA is an annual membership program for departments that use technology in support of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses. The membership provides a complete, inexpensive solution to keep academic labs, faculty, and students on the leading edge of technology.

  3. The department receives numerous benefits as part of their membership: • Latest set of Microsoft platforms, servers, and developer tools. • License to install the software on any number of lab machines used by the department for instructional and research purposes. • License to provide the software to students taking courses that lead to credit or a certificate within the department, so they can load the software on their personal computers for use in coursework and personal projects. • Electronic software distribution to students through e-academy License Management Systems (ELMS). • Four technical support incidents in addition to access to the managed newsgroups and the Online Concierge. What are the benefits?

  4. MSDN AA includes a wide array of titles which are updated frequently as Microsoft ships new products. These include: • Operating systems • Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003 • Development Tools • Visual Studio 2005, Visual Studio Team System, Visual Studio 2003 • Applications • Access, InfoPath, MapPoint, Project, Virtual PC, Visio • Server platforms • SQL Server, Exchange Server, Commerce Server, BizTalk Server, Host Integration Server, Application Center, ISA Server, Mobile Information Server, SharePoint, Team Foundation Server and more! • Tools, SDKs & DDKs • MSDN Library - Documentation, technical articles, code samples • Knowledge Base technical support library • Betas, new releases, updates • Development tools for Windows CE and Windows XP Embedded… What Software is included with the program?

  5. What are the Rules? • Can departments teaching disciplines other than Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) sign up for MSDN AA? • No, only departments teaching STEMdisciplines are eligible for MSDN AA • If I sign my department up for MSDN AA, will this cover ALL students at my University? • No, MSDN AA is sold by the department and intended for use by students taking classes in the department. • If students get software through MSDN AA, do they have unlimited usage of the software? • No, MSDN AA software is intended for use in Academic pursuits of STEM disciplines. School work, research, academic projects, etc. are all acceptable uses. • Can I install the OS on a naked machine? • Yes. Provided that you intend to use that machine and the tools we give in accordance with the EULA (academic STEM usage only). • Can I keep these tools after I graduate? • YES. This license is perpetual, non-transferable. You don’t have to de-install the tools, but the stipulation of “Academic Use Only” does not change. • In one of my classes I used MSDN AA tools to create a product that is so good that I plan to sell it. Can products I make with MSDN AA software be sold commercially? • Congratulations on your great idea. The only stipulation is that you must purchase commercial licenses of all tools used in the creation of your new product prior to selling the product in a commercial situation. • Where can I ask questions about the MSDN AA EULA? • You can write the MSDN AA Compliance Hotline at aacomply@microsoft.com.
