  3. Other terms in the unit… • Musical devices: Alliteration, onomatopoeia, assonance, consonance, meter, and repetition and rhyme- give poems a musical quality • Figurative language: Refers to the use of figures of speech such as: Simile, metaphor, and personification

  4. The Stolen Child • Atmosphere: the mood or overall feeling of a story/poem Q: 1. What is the atmosphere of “The Stolen Child” 2. What elements does the poet use to create this atmosphere? (use direct quotes from the poem to answer this question).

  5. The Stolen Child • Alliteration: the repetition of initial consonant sound for the purpose of emphasizing words and to create musical effect. Ex. Peter Piper picked a pack of pickled peppers Q: 3. Write down the alliterative words and phrases from the poem 4. What words and images are being emphasized? Why? 5. Does this support answer to number 1? If yes, how? If no, based on the alliteration, what could be the atmosphere of “The Stolen Child”
