  1. What Precautions Should We Take After Wisdom Tooth Removal?

  2. Wisdom teeth are the last set of molars located at the back of the mouth. Most people have four wisdom teeth, one in each corner of the mouth, but some individuals may have fewer or even none at all. Wisdom teeth were more useful to our ancestors who had a tougher diet that required extensive chewing of raw plants and meats. However, as our diet evolved to include softer and cooked foods, our jaws became smaller over time.

  3. Common Issues Associated With Wisdom Teeth Include: Impaction:Wisdom teeth may become "impacted" if there isn't enough space for them to fully emerge or grow in the correct position. Crowding: When wisdom teeth attempt to emerge but do not have enough space, they can push against neighboring teeth, causing crowding and misalignment. Infection and gum disease: Partially erupted wisdom teeth can create a flap of gum tissue that traps food particles and bacteria, leading to infections and gum disease around the tooth. Cysts and tumors: In rare cases, cysts or tumors can form around impacted wisdom teeth, potentially causing damage to the jawbone and nearby teeth.

  4. Here Are Some Precautions And Tips To Follow: Listen carefully to your dentist or oral surgeon's post-operative instructions. They will provide specific guidelines based on your situation, such as how to care for the wound, manage pain, and when to resume normal activities. Bite down on gauze pads placed over the extraction sites for about 30-45 minutes to control bleeding. Change the gauze pads as needed. If bleeding persists, contact your dentist.

  5. Take it easy for the first 24 hours after surgery. Avoid strenuous activities that could lead to complications or dislodge blood clots. Applying ice packs on the cheeks near the surgical area can help reduce swelling and provide relief. Use the ice packs for about 15 minutes at a time, with breaks in between. This care may help a lot after Wisdom Tooth Removal.

  6. Pain management: Your dentist may prescribe pain medications or recommend over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen. Follow the recommended dosage and frequency. Avoid hot drinks and foods: Refrain from consuming hot foods and drinks during the first 24 hours, as they can increase bleeding. Soft diet: Stick to a soft or liquid diet for the first few days to avoid disturbing the surgical site. Eat foods like soup, yogurt, mashed potatoes, and smoothies. Avoid straws: Don't use straws for drinking, as the suction can dislodge blood clots and lead to a painful condition called dry socket.

  7. Oral hygiene: Continue regular oral hygiene but be gentle around the surgical area. Avoid brushing the surgical site for the first 24 hours and instead, rinse your mouth gently with warm salt water after meals to keep the area clean. Swelling:Some swelling is normal after surgery. To reduce swelling, keep your head elevated while resting and use ice packs as mentioned earlier. No touching or poking: Refrain from touching the surgical area with your fingers or tongue, as this can introduce bacteria and hinder healing.
