Reminder of context Lack of formal sharing of experiences between orthoprothesists at national and regional levels; Lack of continuing education of professionals; Difficulty of access to information for professionals; Lack of professional recognition by the various public health authorities of the majoritry of the african countries.

FATO path • For several years: involvement of many international organizations in the offer of rehabilitation services which remain insufficient in regards to the expectations of the persons with disabilities • To coordinate the change into a national/action plan for the medium and long term • FATO, WHO, ICRC/SFD collaboration – few background

  6. Few achievements • Organization every two years of scientific meetings: • Niamey in Niger in 2002 • Lomé in Togo in 2004 • Dakar in Senegal in 2005 • Kigali in Rwanda in 2007 • Hamamet in Tunisia in 2009 • And Arusha in Tanzania in 2011

Limits and current challenges • To strengthen, synthesize and organize the collected data with the survey through relevance groups and key indicators • To link with the WHO World Report on Disability recommendations • To shift from the data collection to the revision or development of national plans, and monitoring • Tchad example • Re mobilize participating countries and new ones to use the revised data base tools
