  1. The Gospel According to Markpart 4“Forgiveness, for a Repentant heart”Mark 2:1-17

  2. Mark 2:1)“And again, He entered Capernaum after some days, and it was heard that He was in the house.”

  3. By Mark’s description, it was in fact no small crowed. No available room, not even at the door.

  4. The crowd was an eclectic gathering. The Scribes and Pharisees were there. They, like so many were there to hear the words of life from the Master. Then of course, there were those who had come only to receive a miracle of healing.

  5. Notice the scripture says “He saw their faith”, that is to say, Jesus understood they all had demonstrated faith. Jesus gives the man something else, maybe something the man didn’t even understand he needed; Jesus gave him a spiritual healing.

  6. Their anger and righteous indignation was stirred, but they kept their mouths shut. Jesus knew what they would think, and He did it anyway. And He wasted no time calling them out on their invisible indignation.

  7. Mark wants us to see that the authority of Jesus extends to even our thoughts. Jesus is either going to make converts of these leaders, or make enemies of them, and of course both are part of the plan.

  8. The paralytic, like so many of Jesus miracle recipients would become walking billboards for Christ. Saying “Look what the “Son of Man” has done in me, and for me.

  9. Vs 13-14) “Then He went out again by the sea, and all the multitude came to Him, and He taught them. As He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office. And He said to him “Follow Me! So he arose and followed Him.

  10. What had Jesus just done? He called Levi Matthew to follow Him, but surely Jesus won’t call him to be a disciple! Levi responds in the best way he knows how, he throws a feast for the Master.

  11. What Jesus is doing is really outside the bounds of the Jewish law. To eat and mingle with these men was seen as an act of sin, it caused one to become unclean. requiring a sacrifice for purification.

  12. Jesus is using the term physician as a metaphor for Savior. “Those who are well” is a reference to those who do not believe they require a Savior.

  13. Who are the sinners? All! What does He want from them? To repent!

  14. The grace of Christ is that we receive that which we do not deserve. But one cannot fully, if at all, appreciate grace, unless we comprehend what we have received this forgiveness from.
