Food Chain • A food chain is made up of a sequence of living organisms that eat and are eaten by other organisms living in the community. • Producers are plants, herbivores are the animals that eat plants, and carnivores eat animals. (Not listed in the book are omnivores, which eat plants AND animals.) • See the image on the next slide.

  5. Food Web • Most food chains become quite complicated, because many predators will eat any animal they can catch and eat. • A food web, then, is several food chains interwoven with each other. • See the image on the next slide.
