  8. Biblical Spirituality “Biblical spirituality can be defined as the process of the divine restoration and healing of the broken relation between the Triune God and humanity. As such, biblical spirituality is the response of a repentant human heart and mind to the loving heart and mind of God” 1 Corinthians 2:12-13 Romans 8:14

  9. Biblical Spirituality “Biblical spirituality is further deepened as the Holy Spirit prompts spiritual desires and leads us to consider and accept the instructions from God’s written Word.” Hebrews 4:12

  10. Biblical Spirituality Key Points • The Bible is the medium through which God communicates with minds and hearts of individuals and is foundational to any genuine spirituality. Rom 10:17 (Faith comes by hearing . . . ) • God loves the lost world. John 3:16 • There is no fullness of coming to God without Christ who is the fullest revelation of God’s Character and life and who is the way, the truth and the life. John 14:6

  11. Biblical Spirituality Key Points • The atonement of Christ. Biblical spirituality revolves around one’s need for a Savior who died for us on the cross. Romans 3:24 • The work of the Holy Spirit. Biblical spiritual is not possible except at the initiation of God through the Holy Spirit. John 3:6-8 • The mind. Biblical spirituality results from our renewed mind coming into contact with the mind of God through the Scripture and the Holy Spirit as we meditate on a accept the Word of God. Romans 12:1-2

  12. Biblical Spirituality Key Points • The physical human body. The human body is a living soul rather than having a separate soul. It is key in understanding the nature of biblical spirituality. The mind and the body form an integral unity that cannot be divided. 1 Cor 6:19, Psalm 146: 4 • The healing power of Christ from sin and the results of sin. His healing power continues to be manifested through the name of Jesus Christ, proper lifestyle, godly physicians, ministers and mental health professionals as well has human families as they express God’s love to one another. God also works through miracles of healing as He wills. Matthew 9:35, Mark 16:17-19; James 5:14-15

  13. Biblical Spirituality A Very Important Point (1) • We do not believe that all study of the Word of God, all prayer, and all behaviors of service and devotion are performed under the influence of the Holy Spirit. Sinful humanity has the ability outwardly to do some of these good things, but for the wrong motives or sometimes in a routine fashion devoid of meaning. It is easy for the un-renewed human mind to become blinded by human learning and service and not be actuated by the Spirit. 1 Corinthians 1:20-25

  14. 1 Corinthians 1:20-25 New Life Version Where is the man who is wise? Where is the man who thinks he knows a lot? Where is the man who thinks he has all the answers? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. 21 In His wisdom, He did not allow man to come to know Him through the wisdom of this world. It pleased God to save men from the punishment of their sins through preaching the Good News. This preaching sounds foolish. 22 The Jews are looking for something special to see.

  15. 1 Corinthians 1:20-25 The Greek people are looking for the answer in wisdom. 23 But we preach that Christ died on a cross to save them from their sins. These words are hard for the Jews to listen to. The Greek people think it is foolish. 24 Christ is the power and wisdom of God to those who are chosen to be saved from the punishment of sin for both Jews and Greeks. 25 God’s plan looked foolish to men, but it is wiser than the best plans of men. God’s plan which may look weak is stronger than the strongest plans of men.

  16. Biblical Spirituality A Very Important Point (2) • We do not believe that spiritual practices earn us any increased standing with God. Our salvation is through the sacrifice of Christ alone, by His grace accept through faith Ephesians 2:8-10

  17. Ephesians 2:8-10 New Life Version 8 For by His loving-favor you have been saved from the punishment of sin through faith. It is not by anything you have done. It is a gift of God. 9 It is not given to you because you worked for it. If you could work for it, you would be proud. 10 We are His work. He has made us to belong to Christ Jesus so we can work for Him. He planned that we should do this.

  18. Conclusion Biblical spirituality, at its core, refers to a life of discipleship intentionally lived in personal relationship with God through Christ by the Spirit. The life lived with God is such that “we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, might serve Him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before Him all our days” Luke 1:74-75

  19. Luke 1:74--75 New Life Version 74 He promised that we would be saved from those who hate us and that we might worship Him without being afraid. 75 We can be holy and right with God all the days of our life

  20. Jesus How great is

  21. And when I think that God, His Son not sparing; Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in; That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin.

  23. When Christ shall come, with shouts of acclamation, And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart. Then I shall bow, in humble adoration, And then proclaim: "My God, how great thou art!”
