  1. Benefits of Fasting in Ramadan By Umema Khan 8C

  2. Intro Fasting in Islam is when you don’t eat the whole day until the time of Salat Al Maghreb or when the sun sets. All Muslims are required to fast in the month of Ramadan, the month in which the Holy Quran was revealed. In this Slideshow I will tell you what the benefits of fasting are in Ramadan. The word "Ramadan" comes from the Arabic root word for "parched thirst" and "sun-baked ground." It is expressive of the hunger and thirst felt by those who spend the month in fasting. As opposed to other holidays, when people often indulge, Ramadan is by nature a time of sacrifice.

  3. The Fourth Pillar First of all Siyam (fasting) is the fourth pillar of Islam and without anyone of the pillars of Islam you cannot really be a real Muslim. Islam’s 5 pillars are a lot like a tent or a building, without one of the pillars the tent or building will fall apart, Islam is very similar, where if you do not do any of the things below your Islam will “fall apart”.

  4. Fasting Leads to Taqwa Taqwa is a state of love and closeness to Allah, fasting helps you to be more mindful of Allah because you are fasting just for Him. Taqwa makes you closer to Allah. In Surah Al Baqara Allah (SWT) says : O you who believe! Observing the fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become pious. [2:183]

  5. Fasting Brings Allah’s Forgiveness Observing the fast in Ramadan with sincere intention causes the believer to be forgiven of all past sins. Scholars note however, that this forgiveness does not apply to major sins which require the Muslim to offer Allah a sincere repentance before they are completely forgiven.

  6. Fasting Helps a Believer to Win Jannah Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said that Fasting Muslims will enter Jannah (Heaven) from a special gate that is called Ar -Rayyan.

  7. Fasting Shields Muslims from the Punishment in Jahannam Abu Sa’eed al- Khudri reported that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “No servant fasts on a day in the path of Allah except that Allah removes the hellfire seventy years further away from his face” Narrated by Al – Baukhari, Muslim and others.

  8. Fasting has Physical Benefits making you healthier Besides the spiritual benefits that fasting has, it also has physical ones. Fasting allows the body to rid itself of poisonous substances that can lead to very serious illnesses or disease. For example obesity is a major problem all around the world and causes many diseases like diabetes, if you fast your eating habits will improve and if you are at risk you probably will not become obese.

  9. Fasting also has Social Benefits Fasting also promotes wellness within the society. Those who are wealthy can sympathize with those who are poor and unfortunate by sharing in their pain and hunger, this makes a closer bond between you and the rest of your neighborhood no matter how much money you have if you are rich or poor.

  10. Fasting also has Psychological Benefits Closeness to Allah and purity of heart is the true way to attain happiness in life. Allah is the One who grants people happiness and positive psychological status or deprives them from it. Attaining Taqwa and higher level of Iman and spirituality through fasting is a natural way to become psychologically healthy.
