  1. Music magazine pitch Will H-R

  2. Genre • The main genre for my magazine is rock • However within this genre, my magazine will cover the sub-genres of alternative rock, indie and grunge.

  3. Audience • My main target audience is14-30 year old music fans. • Also older, middle aged music fans as a secondary audience because it will contain bits and pieces on older bands.

  4. Proposed name ZEST Great enthusiasm and energy. Added flavour, interest or charm

  5. Tagline Ideas • “All things rock ‘n’ roll” • “Be different” • “The home of music” • “The first for fresh music” Rock and roll is often referenced to sex and drugs and bad behaviour and may not be a good influence on a teenage audience. So I think this is a no. The magazine will contain a lot about alternative and indie music so I think that this would be a good tagline because indie means individual, or different. It’s very plain and simple, which I think is good however I think the word “music” is too broad a term. I like the alliteration, makes it sound young and exciting. The word “fresh” fits in nicely with my proposed name “Zest”. I think I will use this as my tagline.

  6. Editorial mission statement • My magazine is mostly going to focus on introducing new, fresh and up-and-coming bands. • However, I would also like my magazine to contain articles on older, mainstream bands in order to inform people of our musical ancestors.

  7. Unique selling point • It will have 4 pages of gig listings • Reviews on previous gigs • An introducing section to introduce new bands and artists • Exclusive interviews and articles • Album reviews • Song, album and band of the month • Lifestyle section, fashion, TV film, games, gadgets

  8. Reader profile • Yannis is a 21 year old student studying music at Bristol university. He plays guitar in an indie-rock band and also produces his own electronica music in his free time. He has an annual subscription to NME magazine which he likes because of the variety of the contents, the price and the fact it is a weekly magazine. Occasionally he buys Q and Mojo magazine as well as NME, depending on the contents of them. He reads NME to hear about new or up-and-coming artists such as “Peace” and “Swim Deep” and to perhaps get some musical inspiration.

  9. Ideas for cover I like the scroll on the top of the page which they use on both magazines The use of three fonts on Q magazine looks very effective and may be something I try and do in my magazine. I like the title going across the top of the page like they have on Mojo magazine rather than the title in the corner that they have on Q and NME I like the black, white and red colour cohesion of Q magazine and I think it will be something I will incorporate into my magazine I think I will use either a close up or medium close up like the one above for my magazine.
