Objectives • - Programme Objectives: • To increase the number of learners who pass matric with higher grade Mathematics and Science. • To build a pipeline of potential future Eskom bursars to study Science Engineering and Technology • To act as a pilot for potential input to the Dinaledi Project • Act as resource centre for other schools

Scope of Support • Scope of support provided to schools • 2 Educators per school (Maths and Science) • Learning Material • Teaching Aids • Science and Biology Laboratory Equipment • Computers, Printers, and Software (Networking) • General (Classroom and Laboratory Furniture, Photocopiers, Alarm System, Air Conditioners, Stationery, etc)

Results Achieved • Results Achieved • Increase in number of learners studying Mathematics and Science • Increase in schools offering Maths and Science in HG • Increase in girls taking maths and science • Increase in pass rates • Learner and school awards (Chairman’s Awards) • Motivated headmasters and educators • Interschool network and established relations • Interschool visits • Exposition of learners to the university environment during winter school • Increased participation in Maths and Science Olympiads, the Eskom Expo for the Young Scientists reaching national level. • The 18 schools programme has been accepted as a model by the Dept of Education • With the expansion of the Dinaledi programme,12 of the 18 schools were incorporated due to successes shown. In total 15 schools belong to the Dinaledi programme.

  10. Evaluation • Evaluation of Programme Research Project • Methodology – A Quantitative and Qualitative Approach was employed. Questionnaires were administered to Learners and Educators; and Focus Groups were held with Educators and Learners. • Information was collated and an evaluation report has been compiled.
