  2. NYS Context • Large state 19.2 million total population • Over age 60 3.2 million (17% of total) and 23% are minority • Urban and rural state • 59 area agencies on aging (PSAs); most within county government

  3. NYS Context con’t • SUA is a separate agency in the Executive branch • State Nutrition Administrator – Non RD • Staff – 2 registered dietitians • Part of Bureau of Field Operations within the Division of Local Program Operations

  4. Job Expectations • No existing job description • What I was asked to do – redo the program standards; position program for arrival of Boomers; deal with decline of Congregate numbers • What I am doing • What I should be doing

Expectations on PSAs • Manage operation of the Elderly Nutrition Program locally – Congregate and HDM • Registered Dietitian • Provide Nutrition Education and Counseling • Health Promotion and Disease Prevention; You Can • NSI; Assessments • SNAP; NSIP; SFMNP; LTHHCP • Outreach, targeting, access and supportive services, benefits information, reporting
