  10. Agenda Overview 1 What’s New 2 Process Flow 3

  11. Business Process Flow Part Search and Re-use Part Definition BOM Definition Change Management Part and BOM Reports Design or Senior Engineer Search, navigate, Parts/BOMs Compare attributes and BOM structure

  12. Revision Filter provides ability to expand a development BOM with the latest or latest complete revisions to view the intended BOM that will go to production. Search Within Context provides the ability to search for parts within the context of the current part’s BOM. BOM expansion filter enables fast navigation to any BOM level including all levels. Latest New Integrated search engine and optimized search page provides greatly improved search performance and flexibility. Part Search and BOM Filtering Engineers can quickly and easily find and update BOM information in order to make more informed design decisions BOM View filter is used to display and edit specific BOM views. Engineering View – for Engineering, Common View for Manufacturing Planning and Plant Specific for Manufacturing Engineering.

  13. BOM compare allows users to find the best assembly to be used as a starting point for a new design. Users can compare attribute values of several parts to find the best one that meets the product requirements. Differences are highlighted in red. Part and BOM Compare Engineers can determine which candidate part may best meet their design needs and avoid creating a new part

  14. 1.) The User selects the BOM Compare report from the EBOM Reports Menu. 2.) The User selects the comparison criteria including BOM levels to compare 3.) Color coding is used to highlight the differences between the two BOMS. Highlighted BOM Comparison Design and manufacturing engineers can immediately see highlighted differences between BOMs to avoid mistakes

  15. Business Process Flow Part Search and Re-use Part Definition BOM Definition Change Management Part and BOM Reports Senior or Component Engineer Classify Parts Create New or Clone Existing Parts Define Related Technical Documents Define alternate, substitute and/or manufacturing equivalent parts

  16. Part Clone and Derivation Save time and avoid errors by cloning complex part structures as a starting point to create new parts 1.) User selects the Create Part Clone command from an existing part properties page 2.) User selects cloning options and new part information 3.) Derived links are automatically created between the source and target parts to track part genealogy information.

  17. Part Images are used to visualize parts of interest. Part Classification Part reuse and technical information consistency improves when engineers have a consistent process to classify, find and compare part characteristics Part Families are used to group similar parts. A part family is a classification which defines a specific set of attributes which will be applied to all of the parts assigned to the part family

  18. A master part controls the ‘master’definitionof specifications for related reference parts. All reference parts are linked by read only ‘references’ to the master part’s specifications Note: No editing actions available on a reference part’s specifications. Part Series Manage part variants within the context of the classification system Part Family members can be declared as masters or references to a master.

  19. Create Specifications Automation ensures that the proper technical documentation is associated to corresponding parts through integration to CAD tools Part Specifications are technical documents that are associated to parts. These documents can be automatically created and associated using Multi-CAD integrations or manually

  20. Alternate and Substitute Parts Avoid part shortages in manufacturing and insure that design intent is being followed Manage a list of “substitute” parts that can be used in “a specific assembly”. Manage a list of “alternate” parts that can be used in “any assembly”.

  21. Manufacturing Equivalent Parts Standardize on common components from multiple suppliers for purchasing and re-use efficiencies Manufacturing Equivalent Parts are used to define externally supplied parts that are qualified to be equivalent to an internal / enterprise part Placeholder MEPs can be created during development which enables parallel design and component engineering activities.

  22. Business Process Flow Part Search and Re-use Part Definition BOM Definition Change Management Part and BOM Reports Engineers Engineers Plan and Create BOMS Validate BOMS

  23. EBOM Management Un-configured / latest released revision EBOM Support the use of standard, supplier based products for complex, low product volume companies • An “Un-configured” EBOM uses latest released revision “Item Effectivity” • Every unique assembly configuration has a new top level part number • Facilitates unique identification • Ability to inventory • Facilitates supplier component / assembly re-use

  24. Product Unit Effectivity BOM Configured EBOM Optimize the composition of complex BOM structures In this example the BOM “usage effectivity” indicates that the component parts are included for product units 1 and subsequent (all current and future units) Configured BOMs employ “usage effectivity”. The advantage of configured parts /BOMs is a single part number can represent multiple configurations. A typical complex product BOM would have configured parts at high levels and un-configured parts at lower levels.

  25. Create BOMS Use optional CAD integrations to automatically create development BOMS and avoid BOM data entry errors Multi-discipline engineering BOMS and related technical documentation are synchronized with CAD authoring tools and can be updated as required.

  26. BOM Validation Development and manufacturing engineers can validate that parts in development meet company standard engineering rules 1.) The user selects one or more objects in the structure, then clicks on the “Validate” command 2.) The user selects the rules to be validated for the selected objects 3.) The Validation report is displayed in a pop up, which lists the objects and validation results

  27. Business Process Flow Part Search and Re-use Part Definition BOM Definition Change Management Part and BOM Reports Responsible Design Organization and Members ECO Preparation /Analysis Update BOMS Review / Approve ECOS Release ECOS

  28. Product Unit Effectivity Enabled Change Process Engineers can ensure that changes are applied to the proper/valid range of product units Note: Changes are assigned a product unit range applicability, which is calculated as product unit effectivity when the associated ECO is released Product Changes are accessed from the Product Engineering Change Powerview where the user can list existing or create a new PUE-ECO Selecting Applicability presents a dialog which allows the user to select the range of affected units by *Mod Stack (existing range of units common to other ECOs) Builds (select a range of units) Manual (Key in a range of units)

  29. Configured EBOM Change Analysis Engineers can minimize the number of unique design solutions for a given product An ECO pre-requisite indicates a system calculated or user defined change dependency. This insures that ECOs that have pre-requisite dependency are released in sequence Mod stacks are used to present existing sets of changes and their applicability / effectivity. Selecting an existing mod stack applicability for a new change will add it to an existing change set.

  30. Business Process Flow Part Search and Re-use Part Definition Change Management BOM Definition Part and BOM Reports Engineering Users Where Used Report Consolidated BOM Report

  31. Consolidated EBOM Report Purchasing can leverage existing BOMs to calculate part demand The Consolidated EBOM report produces a flat list of parts in the BOM and calculates total part quantities of all part instances.

  32. Where Used Report Engineers can evaluate the impact of change The Where Used report displays the first or multi-level parents of the selected part. This report is used as input to perform a mass change operation.
