  2. Lunchables Hit Nickelodeon! Lunchables have taken over cafeterias all over the world! Most recently they have become extremely popular in the Nickelodeon cafeterias! The television stars have decided to host their very own Guinness Book of World Record breaking ceremony involving Lunchables, but they need a little help! It seems that some of the hit stars have forgotten some key mathematical skills needed to complete their Guinness attempts. THEY NEED YOUR HELP!!!!

  3. Contestant #1 Meet ANGELICA PICKLES! • 13 years old • Enjoys fashion & music • Character Traits: bossy, spoiled & mean

  4. Angelica’s Guinness Record • Angelica gets the bright idea that she wants to break the record for stuffing the most crackers in her mouth!

  5. We need YOU!!! Materials Needed: Things to Consider… Angelica’s mouth is as big as a soda can. How many crackers could you stuff in a can of soda without breaking any crackers? The radius of a cracker The size of a soda can • Ruler • Lunchable cracker

  6. Contestant #2 • Meet • FANBOY and CHUMCHUM! • -Enthusiastic -Ecstatic even • -Likes comic when he loses • books, science -Devoted • fiction & action sidekick • figures • Best Pals

  7. FANBOY & CHUMCHUM’s Guinness Record • FanBoy and ChumChum decide that they can break the record for creating the largest stack of Lunchable cheese!

  8. We need YOU!!! • Materials Needed: • Things to Consider… • Ruler • Post-It Note • The tallest stack they can make is the size of the Statue of Liberty • The size of a piece of cheese is about the size of 7 conjoined Post-It Notes • The width of a Post-It Note • The length of a Post-It Note

  9. Contestant #3 • Meet SONIC THE HEDGEHOG! • -“Like the wind” • -Easygoing • -Daredevil who focuses on challenges

  10. SONIC THE HEDGEHOG’sGuinness Record • Sonic decides that he wants to break the record for having the most Reese cups in a race loop.

  11. We need YOU!!! • Materials Needed: • Things to Consider… • Ruler • Standard Size Reese Cup • The loop is as long as a football field • Reese cups cannot be stacked on top of each other. • You must have whole Reese Cups • The size of a Reese Cup

  12. Don’t forget to use your worksheet as your guide! These contestants need your help!!!

  13. **Teacher Information Only** Needed Materials Set Up Set up stations where students can retrieve one of each of the needed materials Also, allow students to go five at a time to the computers located at the back of the classroom to research the information needed to answer the problem Students may then proceed to work on the worksheet • Internet for research • Soda Can • State of Liberty • Football Field • Ruler • Post-It Notes • Cracker • Reese Cup

Concepts and Connections • Students must be able to assess the problem and use the provided information in the PowerPoint to solve the task at hand. • Students must know how to • Use a ruler • Divide & multiply fractions • Find the area of a square and rectangle • Find the diameter and area of a circle • Round decimals • Make estimations • Students will need to • Sort out the relevant information • Measure the Lunchable item or item equivalent to the Lunchable • Search the internet in order to find estimations for a soda can, Statue of Liberty and a football field • Students are able to use real life objects and compare them with other real life objects • Reese’s cup • Post-It Note • Cheese • Football field • Statue of Liberty • Soda Can • Cracker • Students are using a ruler to measure items of food and objects • Students are finding the area of a piece of cheese and a football field • Students are finding the diameter of a Reese cup they typically eat as a snack • Students are rounding numbers in order to make comparisons between the Lunchable items that many students take to school on an everyday basis • Many students are familiar with the Guinness Book of World Records, if not, they are learning that the book details unordinary record breaking tasks
