  1. Recruiting NQTs for Essex Primary Schools Helen Edwards Schools Workforce Recruitment Strategy Adviser Jo Lang Strategic Development Partnership Officer

  2. Getting the best NQTs for Essex • Exploring the current role of the LA in supporting NQT recruitment • Looking at potential developments • Looking at benefits to schools • Hearing your views

  3. Ways of working • Keep things as they are • Open Days with opportunity for schools to complete a ‘Long List’ of potential candidates • Active recruitment day/s

  4. Option 1 - Keep things as they are • LA attends Recruitment Fairs • LA uploads details of trainee teachers on website as active jobseekers • Schools use website to recruit, maximising the tools on the site • Free to maintained schools - cheap to academies! • Little direct communication between LA and schools • Little quality control or matching

  5. Option 1 – 29 NQT registered on website

  6. Working with EPHA and schools, we could develop this work to offer ‘best match’ NQTs: Minimal disruption Maximum benefitto Essex schools

  7. Option 2 - Open Days • Organise a quadrant ‘Open Day’ for candidates based at a school venue where general interviews take place and a long list is produced • LA promotes at Recruitment fairs and follows up with candidates • LA completes administration for the day and organises the event including interview schedule • Detail of day decided in partnership with EPHA and schools • Schools to provide criteria for initial long listing

  8. Option 3 - Active Recruitment Day • All the above, plus job offer made by recruiting schools • The Luton approach • Group of heads interviewing and placing NQTs on behalf of a group of schools. • LA actively recruiting quality candidates at fairs into a recruitment pool with a specific closing date. • Schools produce vacancy list for recruitment day • Formal interviews take place at recruitment day • Bank of candidates produced to be slotted into specific schools • If a school has a vacancy at short notice then the ‘bank’ can be accessed for suitable candidate.

  9. Your views • There is a very short questionnaire on your tables for you to record your views and suggestions • But any thoughts/questions/comments to share right now?
