  2. Early Middle Colleges are: • Schools that collaborate with postsecondary institutions to offer students college credit and a high school diploma.

  3. There are almost 160 Early Middle Colleges in 24 states. • Hopes for 250 colleges total. • These schools will be able to serve 100,000 students annually.

  4. Why Early College? • 2 years of college tuition FREE! • Early College allows students to earn at least an associate’s degree, 2 years of college credit, and a high school diploma.

  5. Early College Works Well • 80% were accepted to four year colleges. • 85% graduated with 30 to 60 college credits. • Over 57% graduated with an Associate’s degree.

  6. Funding • Bill& Melinda Gates Foundation • Carnegie Corporation of New York • Ford Foundation • W.K. Kellogg Foundation • Lumina Foundation for Education • To date, private funding for the Early College High School Initiative totals more than $130 million.

  7. The Facts: • For every 100 low-income students who start high school, only 65 will receive a diploma. • Only 45 will enroll in college, only 11 will complete a postsecondary degree.

  8. Clearly bold education policies and practices are needed to ensure that more young people earn the post secondary credentials that are crucial to their individual economic security and to the viability of our nations economy.
