  7. Moving ForwardPoints of Pride2012 -2013 How Burr Staff Spent Their Summer Sound Summer Instructional Practices Mrs. Sandison and Miss Gronzo sponsored a Burr Summer Book Club. Mrs. Henry and Mr. Lawson had math review sessions for their former students. Mrs. Fisher also had math review sessions for her former students. Mrs. Churray mailed leveled books to our at-risk (RtI) students. Mrs. Carlin, Mrs. Dennis and Mrs. Verbrugge emailed their students and reminded about summer learning. Mr. Post added 2011 MEAP scores, Data Presentation and Powerschool connection to Burrelementary.org Mrs. Carlin hosted an American Red Cross Blood Drive

Moving ForwardPoints of Pride2012 -2013 How Burr Staff Spent Their Summer Sound Summer Instructional Practices Miss Gronzo taught an ELL class Mrs. Carlin, Mrs. Henry and Ms. Pierce taught Community Education Summer Math and Reading at Burr Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. Fortier and Mrs. Joss went to a three day kindergarten in-service Mrs. Fortier and Ms. Sutter attended Masters classes and now have a Masters of Arts in Teaching Mrs. Dennis attended a conferences on Common Core Math State Standards Mr. Post spent eight days in Wisconsin learning new art skills Mrs. Churray and Mrs. Marks filled out a MEEMIC grant for additional resources Mrs. Stokes taught Smart Start at Burr Elementary Mrs. Marks, Mrs. Churray & Ms. Kammerer met with MPH in August to discuss student achievement Mr. Clarke, Ms. Pierce, Miss Gronzo, Mrs. Carlin, Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. Carlin and Mrs. Dennis attended our Parent Focus Meeting on August 22nd.

Moving ForwardPoints of Pride2011 -2012 Increased MEAP scores AYP – Adequately Yearly Progress 28% of our 3rd – 6th grade student earned All A’s (third marking period) 30% of our 3rd – 6th grade students earned an A/B report card (third marking period)  NEHS (National Elementary Honors Society) school. (33% of 4th – 6th) RtI – Response to Intervention students were below district level in September 2011. At the end of the year, they improved and almost all were at grade level.

  11. Moving ForwardPoints of Pride2011 -2012 John Post, our art teacher, is our webmaster. Burrelementary.org has had almost 150,000 hits. Our site is used by our entire learning community. A special thank you goes out to our staff and Mr. Post for making our school website a useful tool for students, parents and staff.

Moving ForwardPoints of Pride2011 -2012 In keeping with the Utica Community Schools College Culture, Burr Elementary raised enough money last year to award two $250.00 college scholarships to former Bulldogs that graduated from high school and are moving on to higher education. For the 2011/2012 school year, we will be awarding three scholarships to Burr alumni that are seeking higher education. This will bring our total to $1250.00.

Moving ForwardPoints of Pride2011 -2012 Burr PBIS Community Recognition Assembly Approximately 80 - 100 family members attend our assemblies Students are recognized for following our one word school rule – RESPECT Students are recognized for individual growth in the Tier II areas of reading, writing and math Parents are honored for “Making a Difference” Each quarter we honor students who have achieved All A’s or an A/B honor roll Staff is also recognized by students from the Principal’s Student Advisory Board Student successes are shared with the community in the weekly electronic Principal’s Pictures

  14. Moving ForwardParents are Partners in the Learning Process2012 -2013 Almost every study supports the fact that parental involvement helps student performance. As you can see from the chair covers…. “Burr Families are Partners in the Learning Process.” We are building a trusting relationship with our families, recognize and respect family needs and embrace a partnership of shared responsibility. When it comes to sustainable change in schools all the stakeholders have to be a part of the dialogue. Last year, approximately 62% of our families participated in Bulldog Days. Most of our families attended Curriculum Night and we had 100% of our families participate in our Fall Parent/Student/ Teacher conferences.

Moving ForwardParents are Partners in the Learning Process Parents are Partners in the Learning Process 80% of our K – 3rd grade students werereading at home 91% of our 3rd – 6th grade students werecompleting their homework This year, reading at home will be a K – 6 initiative and will be tracked by classroom on the Sense of Urgency link at Burrelementary.org.
