  1. The Parable of the Ten Virgins Which Virgin are You?

  2. Context is Everything…. Jesus is Addressing His Disciples… on a Single theme… beginning in Matt 24:36 up to, and including, our Parable

  3. The Theme… Meeting Christ in Judgment… Matthew 24:36 “But concerning that day and hour no one knows…”

  4. When Will We Meet Christ in Judgment? When We Die or at the Second Coming of Christ… Whichever comes First

  5. In Matthew 24 & 25… The Emphasis is on Christ’s Return … Yet, the Principles are the Same Whether He returns to us… or We Return to Him

  6. Jesus Uses Imagery… Matthew 24:37-39 For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, 39 and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

  7. Jesus Uses Imagery… Matthew 24:43-44 But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

  8. The Theme… We Will Meet Christ in Judgment… That Meeting Will Come Without Warning… Therefore… Be Prepared!

  9. Remember…. God’s Call to be Prepared to Meet Him… is the Starting Point of His Preparing Us!

  10. The Parable of the Ten Virgins… Matthew 25:1 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom.

  11. Matthew 25:2-5 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. 5 As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept.

  12. Matthew 25:6- 9 But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ 7 Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’

  13. Matthew 25:10-13 And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. 11 Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ 12 But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

  14. To Understand How God is… Preparing us through His Word to meet Christ in Judgment… we need to Know Who the Bridegroom and who the Virgins are in this Parable

  15. Who is the Bridegroom? Isaiah 54:4-5 “Fear not.. 5 For your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is his name; and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, the God of the whole earth he is called.

  16. Who is the Bridegroom? John 3:27-29 John answered, “A person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given him from heaven. 28 You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ, but I have been sent before him.’ 29 The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete.

  17. Who is the Bridegroom? Revelation 19:6-7 “ … Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. 7 Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come

  18. Who Are the Ten Virgins? 2 Corinthians 11:2 … (my brothers and sisters in Christ), since you are betrothed to one husband, presented as a pure virgin to Christ

  19. But Not All Ten Virgins… Are Numbered among the Bride of Christ…

  20. Matthew 25:2-5 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them,4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. 5 As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. Matthew 25:10 And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut.

  21. So…. Who Were the Ten Virgins? The True Bride of Christ Are Those Who are Saved… and Attend, Forever, the Wedding Feast of the Lamb … and Five of the Virgins are such

  22. Who, Then are the Other Five? Seemingly… Those Who Attend Church and, in so Doing… Assume that They Are Saved… but are Not…

  23. We Know that They are Not Saved… Matthew 25:11-12 Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ 12 But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’

  24. The First Lesson… There are those who attend church that are not saved… and likely assume that they are

  25. This Leads to an Important Question… How do we know if we are saved?

  26. Related Questions… How Do We Know If The Grace Of God is Upon Us? How Do We Know If Our Heart of Stone Has Been Removed and Replaced With a Heart of Flesh? How Do We Know if the Holy Spirit Resides Within Us?

  27. Related Questions… Which Virgin Are We? How Do We Know If We Are Prepared to Meet Christ In Judgment?

  28. Each of Us… Are Either: Spiritually Dead – w/o Holy Spirit … Unprepared Spiritually Alive – with the Holy Spirit… Prepared

  29. The Answer To All These Questions Centers Upon … Evidence of the Holy Spirit Residing Within Us… And the Only Evidence that the Holy Spirit is Within Us is… Whether we Possess Faith or Not

  30. Faith is the Indicator of Grace Upon You… What we believe does not cause us to be saved… but having faith indicates that God has saved us…

  31. Faith is Impossible if You do… Not Already Possess the Holy Spirit… and only those who have been saved have the Holy Spirit… 1 Corinthians 2:14 The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.

  32. Who Will Possess Faith? Only the elect (believers) possess the Holy Spirit Only those possessing the Holy Spirit can understand the truths of God, for they are spiritually discerned

  33. What is the Content of Faith? Do You Believe That… • you are a sinner • you need a savior • that you can do nothing to meet this need • only God can save

  34. What is the Content of Faith? Do You Believe That… E) you deserve hell, but in mercy were spared F) you contributed nothing to your own salvation, and therefore have nothing for which to boast

  35. What is the Content of Faith? Do You Believe That… G) you possess nothing in yourself that warranted that you were chosen --- you are no more deserving of salvation than anyone else (all of whom, like you and I, deserve only hell)

  36. What is the Content of Faith? H) your faith was and is a gift --- your intelligence, common sense, morality, judgment, and discernment generated zero faith --- you have no faith other than that which God has granted you. Therefore you cannot boast, only thank Him who gives freely

  37. What is the Content of Faith? I) you were regenerated, born again, your heart was transformed from a heart of stone to a heart of flesh, and then you believed --- you were born again (saved) and, as a result, you freely choose according to your new nature, a nature that God Himself ensures is one inclined toward Him, and you believe

  38. All This is Possible Because…. Romans 5:8-9 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.

  39. The Parable of the Ten Virgins… Matthew 25:1 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom.

  40. Prepared for the Bridegroom… Matthew 25:4,10 4 …the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps….10 And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut.

  41. Are You Prepared? If so…. Praise Him! Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast
