Background • Panel discussion on well identifiers at PNEC Data Management Conference (Q2 2003) • Ad hoc group of volunteers agreed to work the issue • Authoring team established to document the problem and propose a solution (Q3 2003) • Discussion document issued for comment (Q1 2004) • Review of feedback with full steering team (Q1 2004) • Due notice taken of similar effort in the AAPG in 1994-5 • Direct discussions with Data Vendors (Q2-Q3 2004) • Letters of Intent Developed and Issued (Q2-Q3 2005)

Benefits • Direct cost savings • Replace dedicated in-house wellbore identification management with a shared service funded by E&P industry • Indirect cost savings • Reduce instances of re-doing work after well/wellbore identity problem is discovered • Simplify data integration of vendor/partner data • Improve efficiency of Acquisition and Disposition activities
