  3. SOCIAL HEALTH • Embarrassing yourself. • Loss of income due to time of work or even loss of job. • Unable to control your thoughts and feelings. • Spending large amounts of money when intoxicated. • Loosing Friends because you have no time for them anymore.

  4. MENTAL HEALTH • Feeling of helplessness. • Depression. • Addiction to alcohol. • Alcohol affects the chemistry of the brain which increases the risk of depression.

  5. PHYSICAL HEALTH • Addiction to alcohol. • Brain or liver damage. • Higher risk to cancer. • Hangovers. • Depression. • Heart problems. • Alcohol Poisoning.

  6. SPIRITUAL HEALTH • Putting yourself into risky situations. • Damage to the body. • Being in a accident. • Ending up in hospital. • Not caring about yourself or others

  7. STATISTICS • 22% of girls aged 14-17 binge drink. • Women are not meant to go over the 6 standard alcoholic drinks. • 28% of women aged 14-24 admitted to regular binge drinking. • Women respond to smaller amounts of alcohol because their bodies have a higher ratio of fat to water. Price of Binge Drinking

  8. IMPACT OF HEALTH LITERACY • People ignore the fact that alcohol is a drug • Know the effects that binge drinking has on the body and the consequences from drinking too much • People would be able to take action and reduce the amount of binge drinking hospitalisations and deaths • Increase the price of alcohol and put warning labels on alcohol bottles to prevent binge drinking

  9. CURRENT STRATEGIES AND LEGISLATIONS FOR BINGE DRINKING • Alcohol related adverts on TV. • Some are good because they are graphic and are aimed at the younger target age group. • Showing the consequences of drinking too much alcohol. • “Don’t turn a night out into a nightmare” posters good because they are graphic.

  10. EFFECTIVNESS OF APPROPRIATE GOVERNMENT OR COMMUNITY AGENCIES • Major concerns that Australian youth are becoming addicted to binge drinking. • Advertisements on TV designing to be hard hitting and get the message across. • Some of the advertisements are good because of the visual outcomes. Showing graphic pictures of what could happen if you drink too much.

  11. STRATEGIES • More advertisements on the TV, and on billboards or bus stops showing the negative effects and consequences when people drink too much alcohol. • Increasing the price of alcohol and making the labels less appealing • The labels should be the ‘don’t turn a night out into a nightmare’ advertisement so people have a constant reminder when drinking. • ‘Drink Wise’ Australia is committed to shaping healthier and safer drinking culture in Australia. They are a non-for-profit, and independent based organisation.

  12. OUR STRATEGIES • Labels on alcohol bottles, showing graphic pictures and the “don’t turn a nigh out into a nightmare” slogan. • Constant reminder when drinking, making you stop and think. • Youth community centres where binge drinking can talk to others about their problems and have guest speakers talk about the consequences of binge drinking.
