  1. An exploration of contextualised enterprise curriculum for media and creative industry students Annette Naudin annette.naudin@bcu.ac.uk http://annettenaudin.wordpress.com

  2. Context • Methodology – testing • Emerging themes

  3. The business context of much traditional entrepreneurship education, allied with the associated, largely corporate, nature of organisation of knowledge into business school ‘disciplines’ such as marketing, finance, operations, strategy and so on has had considerable influence on knowledge inputs pertaining to entrepreneurship education. Gibb, 2009

  4. ‘ban the plan’

  5. With ‘identity’, he suggests, the devil is often in the details. If our analytical gaze is too lofty or too generalized we risk overlooking the specificity and particularity of the different forms of personhood. Rose quoted in Du Gay, 2007:47

  6. Methodology • My position • Interviews

  7. Twitter – sharing ideas • Anyone willing to help me design my wordpress theme? Any xhtml/css coders wiling to volunteer? #maentToday at #MAent • http://bit.ly/9nMN2K Thanks @DesiVelikova! • First steps in Market Research #MAent Here is my blogpost http://bit.ly/cPeFuc

  8. Twitter – guest speaker day • @lornaparsons enjoyed your session, especially A114about sticking with one idea. Re-echoed what @Holzhair said. #Maent • Listening to how @marvovox has been proactive, she's been doing this for a long time! #Maent • First talker is very interesting, and it's nice of him to pop in before he goes off to Romania #MAent

  9. Emerging themes - general • Expectations • Autobiography • Cultural context ‘Having this as a part of my study was not comfortable – it was a bit challenging at the beginning’ Student interviewee

  10. Emerging themes - enterprise • Negotiating own version of entrepreneurship ‘Being an entrepreneur for me now is about how to bring together messy things and bring them together to make a pattern.’ Student interviewee ‘One thing was leading to the other. And without knowing it my research was being formed by my actions. So it wasn’t about me thinking I need to do ABC anymore, it was about A taking me to B’ Student interviewee

  11. Emerging themes - enterprise • Peers and networks ‘and also to have this critical eye, you can evaluate not only your ideas but also others – actually it is more challenging to evaluate your own ideas but also you have this critical eye, and to be objective – not just I didn’t like your idea – you have to get them recommendations and give them feedback.’ Student interviewee

  12. Conclusion The focus on the individual and personal development through the use of narrative in interviews encourages self exploration and debate. It supports the idea of a personalised, non generic perspective of entrepreneurship as it is negotiated at an individual level.
