Location • Dry, flat surface • No hills, depressions • No overhanging branches • Clear area of debris • No rock circle! 2.
Materials • Tinder: Any material that will light from a spark e.g.) Dry grass or leaves • Kindling: Pencil lead to pencil width thick fuel that will light from a small fire e.g.) Small twigs • Fuel Wood: Anything larger than kindling to maintain fire e.g.) Logs • Can be found everywhere Location of Materials 3.
Starting a Fire with a Match • Place 2 logs- 30cm long or more parallel to each other • Place a stick over two logs • Rest tinder on stick • Light fire • Fire is not a toy Logs tinder stick 4.
Starting a Fire Without a Match • Flint and steel- Hit flint with steel near tinder- spark should catch tinder on fire • Bow and drill- rubbing sticks together- friction will heat tinder 5.
