  4. Limited versus Unlimited (Government) • Limited Government- the power of the government is restricted by laws • Unlimited Government- Leader has almost all the power • What type of Government do we have in the United States?

  5. An example of unlimited government is a dictatorship • In an unlimited government the personal freedoms of the citizens are much less.

Executive The president -enforces laws -Commander and chief -conducts foreign affairs -cabinet includes secretaries of the 14 executive departments -Signs bills into law or (veto's) The Queen/Prime Minister -The Queen is the figure head -The Queen appoints the prime minister - Prime Minister in charge of day to day activity

Legislative • Congress • Two houses • House and Senate • Senate= 50 members • House= 435 members • Shared and separate responsibilities • Writes and approves bills • Parliament • -Two bodies • -House of Commons and the Senate • -Determine the laws and policies • The leader is the Prime Minister • Senators are chosen by the prime minster

  9. Judicial Supreme Court (U.S) -Made up of the chief Justice and 8 other justices - Ensures laws and treaties are constitutional • Supreme Court • Made up of the chief Justice and 8 other justices • Determine cases which have been appealed from the provincial courts
