  3. What is the purdue career wiki? • Campus wide collaboration • Collection of databases, tools, job boards and career resources • Accessible to you as a student with your Purdue login • A great place for information!

  4. Why should you use it? • To find companies that hire and sponsor internationals • To find companies with a presence in your home country • To find out about opportunities that exist outside of campus • To develop your target list of companies • To find information valuable in career search and coursework

H1 visajobs How to use it: • Click on the H1 VisaJobs link under the International Tab • Click on the link “access for Purdue affiliated users can be found here.” • Copy the username and password from that screen • Click on the H1 VisaJobs link to access the site • Click Login in the upper right hand corner and paste username and password • Click “BUSI-H1B” on the password protected list • Search by company, job title, state or region

Uniworld How to use it: • Click on the Uniworld link under the International Tab • Click on the Uniworld link on the following page to use Purdue access • Search for either “American firms operating outside the US” or “Foreign firms operating in the US” • Search by country, region, state, keyword, zip code, radius, industry code, revenue or number of employees-click add to include criteria • View report or download to Excel • Contains contact information and pertinent details of the business

Going Global How to use it: • Click on the Going Global link under the International Tab • Click on “Create Personal Account” in the upper right hand corner • Type your details into the form--use Purdue as the “Organization” and your Purdue email • Login using your Purdue email and established password • Search country career guides, USA/Canada career guides, job postings and internship listings, H-1B info or key employer directory

  9. Exercise #1: International student interested in working in the us • He is from India and is looking to pursue a career in operations management in the US. He likes technology and thinks he would like to live in San Francisco. • What US companies could he pursue? • How could he find contacts in US companies? • What would be important for him to know regarding his job search in San Francisco?

Exercise #2: International student considering a return home • She is from China and is searching for a global company that would provide her a chance to either train in the US and return home or return home with an option to work back in the US at a later time. Her career focus is human resources. • What companies would be a good option for her and why? • What differences should she be aware of regarding her job search in the US vs. China?

Exercise #3: Fulbright scholar required to return to germany after graduation • He is open to intern anywhere, but has to return to Germany to work full-time after graduation. • What US companies could he pursue? • What differences should he be aware of regarding his job search in the US vs. Germany? • How could he find contacts in Germany?

  12. Exercise #4: Sponsored student required to return to sponsoring organization • She is required to return to her sponsoring company to fulfil her commitment. She is wondering if there would be opportunities to pursue future employment within her company elsewhere in the world. • How could she find out what her company is doing elsewhere in the world? • How could she find US contacts within her company?
