  3. Getting a FREE website. FREE • e-clubhouse.org – free web service from Lions International. Gives you free space with a easy to use template and interface for you to update your website. • In order to register, you have to enter your club’s number. (only 1 per club) • Once you register, you will get to login and edit your page.

  4. Other FREE webhosting ideas • http://www.000webhost.com/ • They provide enough web space and service to have a decent sized web page. • You can install a Content Management System (Wordpress, Joomla, Postnuke) • It is a program that runs from your website and gives you a template, useful plugins like a photo gallery, calendar, chat room, and more. • Most CMS can interact with Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, and Google + to name a few. • Makes future updating on the site as easy as answering a few questions on a form.

  5. Other Hosting ideas • There are other sites that do offer free hosting as well, but they may come with a catch: • advertisements on your page • slow service • limited space • Web Hosting is cheap. For a few dollars a month you can get reliable service with web designer features like PERL, PHP, Ruby, CGI, and shopping carts.

  6. Domain Name Registration • What is a domain name? • It is a quick website address that ends in .com, .net, .org • Having a domain name makes it easy to promote your clubs website. • Domain names can be gotten from a number of companies online for as low as a few dollars a year. • A Domain name can be pointed at a website, an e-clubhouse site, or even a Facebook page.

  7. Getting a Good Domain Name • .org is reserved for non profit organizations, but it can’t hurt to have the .com address as well. • Make it easy to remember and not too long. • Bad ex: www.thisisthemontegutlionswebsite.com • Avoid numbers and dashes in your domain name. • Bad ex: www.Montegut-lions.com www.1Montegutclub.com • Avoid website names where it may spell something else or misrepresent what the site is about. • Bad ex: www.gotahoe.com (can be read 2 ways) www.whitehouse.com (adult site) • A good website might be your club’s name or something special about your club. • Good ex: montegutlions.com or weservemontegut.org

  8. Blogging: What’s the big deal? • Blogging is creating an online journal. • It can be used to promote organizations and clubs, a person’s thoughts and ideas, and the details of an event. • It can be done on a number of free sites like wordpress.org or blogger.com. • Many organization’s leader may use a blog to tell of the successes of their company and to inspire customers and employees. • Lions International President has a blog. • Many motivational speakers, writers, and celebrities may have blogs.
