  5. What type of peanut butter sandwich do you like? We all like our peanut butter sandwiches a little differently than others. That is what makes us unique. We also learn differently. We can use different strategies to solve a double digit addition problem and still come up with the same answer.

  6. What type of peanut butter sandwich do you like? On the next few slides are some strategies that you can use to solve the following problem: Some may work for you and some may not. It’s OK!! 

  7. Traditional Algorithm 1 5 6 + 2 9 7 5 Add 6 and 9 to get 15. Put the 1 ten from 15 above the 5 in the tens side. It is put up there because it still needs to be added. Put the 5 ones below the 9.

  8. How do YOU solve your addition problems? Using the paper your teacher passed out to solve the following addition problem using a strategy that is easiest for you. Be creative!
