Communication • E-mail works best • gebrady@cabrillo.edu • Professional/business communication • Communication with your instructor is similar to business communication (etiquette) • Subject line • cis82 • Please sign with your name • You won’t believe some of the e-mails I receive • E-mail address (some are appropriate for business communication and some are not)

  10. Attitudes • Set goals for this class • Be prepared • Note taking • Attendance • Assignments • Self management • Can you handle the online format?

  11. Expectations • "I missed class... did anything important happen?“ • "Will you please e-mail me whatever I missed?“ • "Do I have to come to class today?" • If you are not sure, come to class!

  12. Did I Miss Anything? • Nothing. When we realized you weren't herewe sat with our hands folded on our desksin silence, for the full two hours • Everything. I gave an exam worth        40 per cent of the grade for this term        and assigned some reading due today        on which I'm about to hand out a quiz        worth 50 per cent • From: Tom Wayman : Poems • Complete poem at: http://www.library.utoronto.ca/canpoetry/wayman/poem5.htm • What is my point? • You need to be here for every class (being online counts), you need to be on time and you need to do your work, and you need to follow the class policies as stated in the syllabus

  13. You are in Charge • When you miss class it is your choice and your responsibility. • When you do not turn in your assignments, there was a choice along the line somewhere. • I hope you choose self-responsibility. • Have a great and fun semester!

  16. Weekly Work • Reading assigned curriculum chapters • Reading Quiz (for each chapter) • Hands on assignments (one week to complete is smart) – due before midterm
