  2. Benefits • The benefits of CIG or conservation innovation grants is that they have supported projects ranging from the use of computer-controlled, automated sprinkler systems that save growers time, money and water. That helps the ecosystem save water when they need it and can use more when it has to saving time and money.

  3. Eligibility • CIG applications are accepted from state or local governments, federally recognized American Indian tribes, non-governmental organizations and individuals in all 50 states. • Conservation approaches or technologies must be sufficiently studied to indicate a likelihood of success to be considered likely candidates for technology transfer. CIG funds innovative on-the-ground conservation projects, including pilot projects and field demonstrations. Proposed projects must conform to the description of innovative conservation projects or activities published in the funding notice.

  4. How to Apply for CIG • The State component emphasizes projects that benefit a limited geographic area. Projects may be farm-based, multi-county, small watershed, or Statewide. Public notices in each participating State will announce the availability of funds for the State CIG competitions.

  5. How to apply for CIG cont. • There is also a national CIG you can apply to. In this one the CIG puts out a funding notice where funds for single, or multi-year projects, not exceeding three years will be awarded through a competitive nation wide grant process. Applications for this should describe innovative technology to address a natural resource conservation concern. The applications are evaluated by a technical peer review system. A technical review system is a review process that exists to find flaws. The award for these applications are awarded by a grant agreement
