  2. The Learning Zone - Homework Center • The East Arlington Branch Library Homework Center is a program offered through the Arlington Public Library System. • It is meant to be a way to enhance the studies of school-age children in grades first through third by offering free tutoring and homework assistance. • Volunteer tutors are available for tutoring: • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

  3. Setting the Table In advance I would pick books for Myrka to read before she got there. I made the selections of the books based on Myrka’s reading and comprehension skills. I tried to address her needs as a reader and make her work on level ahead as a challenge.

  4. Scaffolding This was a concept I applied everyday. I provide sufficient support to promote learning, I used : Modeling Reading Reading Aloud Share reading Learner centered Guide to promote growth Make accommodations for different types of learners

  5. Reading Aloud Help me to monitor Myrka’s fluency Pointing at the word while reading aloud helps Myrka to focus on the story

  6. Shared Reading It was a good tool for modeling for Myrka for intonations, how the words must be pronounced and when to make small pauses when she sees a period of a comma Shared reading makes the student feel confident because they are trying to work to a higher level It is a good time to make questions for checking for understanding

  7. Children's Fantasies Myrka would always bring her stuffed animal Princess with her. I think that working with children we should always remember that children always have fantasies and us as teachers must have tolerance and patience when working with them.

  8. Mrs.Cedillo Myrka’s mom plays an important role in her education. She always encourages Myrka to do her best. She always has her come on time for every session and always asks how her daughter behave and work.

  9. Great Supporter!!! Mingh Do was good at running the program and was a great support to help us change the schedules in case we could not attend some sessions.

  10. Mission Acomplished I felt so proud at the end of the project, and also a little sad. I feel proud because I think I could touch the life of a girl for awhile and be the author of her progress from seven weeks of working with her. I tried to do my best to support Myrka. I think I put a small grain of sand to support my community and in the name of the children of this country.
