  8. Tuesday, August 27 Divisibility Patterns

  9. Divisibility Patterns A whole number is divisible by another number if the remainder is 0. There are rules to determine divisibility.

  10. Divisibility Patterns Divisibility Rule of 2:

  11. Divisibility Patterns Divisibility Rule of 2: If the last digit is even (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) the entire number is divisible by 2.

  12. Divisibility Patterns Divisibility Rule of 10:

  13. Divisibility Patterns Divisibility Rule of 10: If the last digit is a 0 the entire number is divisible by 10.

  14. Divisibility Patterns Divisibility Rule of 5:

  15. Divisibility Patterns Divisibility Rule of 5: If the last digit is a 5 or 0 the entire number is divisible by 5.

  16. Divisibility Patterns Divisibility Rule of 3:

  17. Divisibility Patterns Divisibility Rule of 3: If the sum of the digits is 3, 6, or 9 the entire number is divisible by 3. If the sum is more than one digit, add again.

  18. Divisibility Patterns Divisibility Rule of 9:

  19. Divisibility Patterns Divisibility Rule of 9: If the sum of the digits is 9, the entire number is divisible by 9. If the sum is more than one, add again.

  20. Divisibility Patterns Divisibility Rule of 4:

  21. Divisibility Patterns Divisibility Rule of 4: If the last two digits are divisible by 4 or 00, the entire number is divisible by 4. . (Hint-If the last digit is odd, it can never be divisible by an even number)

  22. Divisibility Patterns Divisibility Rule of 6:

  23. Divisibility Patterns Divisibility Rule of 6: If the Divisibility Rule of 2 AND 3 works, the entire number is divisible by 6.

  24. Divisibility Patterns • The number of tickets needed to ride the Ferris wheel at the county fair is three. If Alicia has 53 tickets, can she use all of the tickets by riding only the Ferris wheel?

  25. Divisibility Patterns • The number of tickets needed to ride the Ferris wheel at the county fair is three. If Alicia has 53 tickets, can she use all of the tickets by riding only the Ferris wheel? 5 + 3 = 8 Since 8 is not 3, 6, or 9; it is not divisible by 3. The answer is no.

  26. Divisibility Patterns • You and two of your friends just won $4,567. Can you divide the money evenly?

  27. Divisibility Patterns • You and two of your friends just won $4,567. Can you divide the money evenly? 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 = 22 2 + 2 = 4 Since 4 is not 3, 6, or 9; it is not divisible by 3. The answer is no.

  34. Divisibility Patterns Jermaine and his father are in charge of grilling for a family reunion picnic. There will be 40 people attending. Ground beef patties come 5 to a package. Can they make 1 hamburger for each person without there being any patties left over?

  35. Divisibility Patterns Jermaine and his father are in charge of grilling for a family reunion picnic. There will be 40 people attending. Ground beef patties come 5 to a package. Can they make 1 hamburger for each person without there being any patties left over? The last digit of 40 is 0, which means it is divisible by 5. There will be no patties left over.

  36. Divisibility Patterns Was the year 1776 a leap year?

  37. Divisibility Patterns Was the year 1776 a leap year? Since a leap year (mostly) occurs every 4 years, is 1776 divisible by 4? Since 76 is divisible by 4, then 1776 is also. 1776 was a leap year.

  38. Divisibility Patterns Was the year 1922 a leap year?

  39. Divisibility Patterns Was the year 1922 a leap year? Since a leap year(mostly) occurs every 4 years, is 1922 divisible by 4? Since 22 is not divisible by 4, then 1922 is not. 1922 was not a leap year.

  40. Divisibility Patterns Will the year 2054 be a leap year?

  41. Divisibility Patterns Will the year 2054 be a leap year? Since a leap year(mostly) occurs every 4 years, is 2054 divisible by 4? Since 54 is not divisible by 4, then 2054 is not. 2054 will not be a leap year.
