  2. Representatives & Uniqueness • Spiders, ticks, scorpions, and mites. • Arachnids have four pairs of legs. • Also have an external skeleton.

  3. Habitat • Live in practically every habitat, including aquatic (freshwater and sea water) and terrestrial environments.

  4. Favorite activities • Hunting. • Trapping insects in webs.

  5. Advancement • Modifications for the terrestrial lifestyle • Internal respiratory surfaces • Trachea • Internal series of vascular lamellae • Gas exchange • Coxal glands and Malpighian tubules • Excretory strutures

  6. Adaptations • Six pairs of appendages • Two pairs are adapted for feeding, defense, and sensory perception. Four are specialized for walking. • Appendages are modified for more efficient locomotion on land.

  7. Ideal Mate • Many legs. • Active during the daytime. • Similar body size.
