  1. Anthony Amoroso MD - The Characteristics of Effective Physician Assistants - Kindness Physician assistants are professionally trained individuals that are licensed to provide health care services under the supervision of a trained and experience professional physician. The health care sector is of course a service industry, and this means how physician assistants interact and deal with their patients is vital to their success and effective provision of their services. People are known to be difficult and stubborn when they are sick, and it is easy for a physician to be impatient and easily lose their cool, but it is vital that they keep a level of emotion within themselves that will mould them into great and respectable professionals. The best quality to develop then is kindness, which is involves being warmhearted, humane, considerate, sympathetic and forgiving. This kindness should be directed towards patients, fellow physician assistants and their supervisors. There are several benefits that come with being kind: Patient confidence A kind professional gives patients a level of confidence to open up and freely tell whatever is truly wrong with them. Studies show that patients who meet with Physician Assistant and even professional Physicians never fully say what is wrong with them when they find a Physician Assistant being unkind, rude or impolite, and therefore more often than not disease are either misdiagnosed or not diagnosed at all.

  2. Good working conditions A medical facility is a busy place with several thousands of people who meet and interact on a daily basis. Professionals are usually just a cog in these huge systems, and when they become unkind and unprofessional towards their colleagues and superiors, they make working conditions quite unbearable and bad. To rid the working system of this, kindness is usually the simple remedy, and human nature has a way of responding positively to kindness. Peace of mind An effective clinician has to have peace of mind, and there is no way he/she is able to achieve this if he/she is not kind. If he is hostile, rude or unkind, everyone responds negatively and this will aggravate their anger, making them even more unkind and mean. It is a vicious cycle that can lead to one not able to perform simply because they are not being kind!
