  2. SUMMER TRAINING SELECTION • Congrats! Your cadet has been chosen from THOUSANDS of others to attend • SIGN YOUR ACCEPTANCE & return it to Capt Palumbo • It is a privilege to attend, if for any reason your cadet can no longer participate, you MUST inform Capt Palumbo immediately. This will ensure someone on the Standby list can attend.

  3. FIRST STEPS • Go to https://portal.cadets.gc.ca • Create a login for the cadet portal English (or French) Click on LOGIN under “Are you a Cadet? Parent? League Member?” SIGN-UP: fill in all required fields. Create a username and password, security question and answer. Check your email and activate link within 24hrs

  4. JOININGINSTRUCTIONS • On the cadet portal website • Make sure you are on the FILE REPOSITORY tab • Central • CTC Joining Instructions • Training Centre – specific to the location your cadet is attending. • Staff JI

  5. NEXT STEPS • Once you have found your JI and all applicable annexes, READ THEM! (maybe print a copy too) • There will be all sorts of information that your cadet (and you) will be expected to know upon arrival at the CSTC • Questions? Email Capt Palumbo: Tammy.Palumbo@cadets.gc.ca

  6. DOCUMENTS • Print, fill-out and bring to camp the following documents from the joining instruction annexes: • Personal Items Log • Transportation Form • Prescription(s) – Meds • Prescription – Eyeglasses

  7. PREPARATION • Clearly mark all items with your cadet’s name • Ensure all items brought fit properly • Purchase/Bring the following items for summer training sports clothing: • Blue/black sports shorts (3), navy blue crewneck t-shirts (2) - see kit list • Check with CI Thiffault TONIGHT

  8. VALUABLES • You bring valuables at your own risk • DND and the cadet system will not replace stolen or broken items • Discouraged Items: • I-anything • Cell Phones • Jewelry • Expensive cameras

  9. HEALTH CARD • YOU MUST BRING YOUR HEALTH CARD • ONLY ACCPTABLE SUBSTITUTE IS THE “ONTARIO MINISTRY OF HEALTH RECEIPT” No HC = No bus

PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION • Bring enough to last for the entire course in ORIGINAL PACKAGE • All medications will be logged and retained by training centre staff • Ensure proper dispensing and all relevant information is provided with the medication • Ensure the cadet understands all relevant information regarding the medication they are taking

  11. NON -PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION • Only send over the counter medication if it has been prescribed by a doctor • Even over the counter medications will not be retained by the cadet

  12. TRANSPORTATION • Cadets MUST travel in uniform: C-5; no rank, no nametag • DEPARTURE/ARRIVAL – will be communicated by email from Capt Palumbo • Old Target @ Pen Centre parking lot • Complete a Cadet Transportation Form If parents want to bring their child to the training centre themselves, please let Capt Palumbo know ASAP

  13. LUGGAGE • CLEARLY MARK OUTSIDE AND INSIDE • Will be subject to inspection upon arrival TAG INSIDE SHOULD INCLUDE CADET NAME, COURSE NAME AND CADET UNIT CADET M. Bloggins 809 Sqn General Training

  14. INTAKE • Upon arrival cadets will go through various stations: • Kit inspection • Medical (with Lice Check) • Banking • Supply • Linens • Flight Assignment

TELEPHONES • Cadets will have access to commercial pay telephones • Calling cards are recommended • Cell phones are only allowed to be signed out/in on a daily basis • In the event of an emergency please contact the Duty officer. See joining instructions for training sites contact info • No cellphones permitted inside the barracks – this can result in RTU Discipline

  21. TRAINING BONUS • Your cadet will receive a Training Bonus of $60 per week • Deposited into a Bank Account at the Training Centre • They will receive the balance upon leaving camp

  22. A TYPICAL DAY • 0600 – Reveille & Ablutions • 0630 – March to Breakfast • 0700 – Breakfast • 0800 – Training begins • 1200 – Lunch • 1300 – Training Resumes • 1500 – Dinner • 1800 – Drill Team practices, Barrack clean-up, Uniform Prep, Studying

  23. A TYPICAL DAY (contd) • 2000 – Free Time – Canteen, Sports, Movie Tent, Cadet Bank etc • 2130 – Barrack Roll Call, Mail delivered, Ablutions • 2200 – Lights Out

TRAINING SESSIONS • Typically two sessions each day – one in the morning and one in the afternoon • For General Training Course Cadets this would include: swimming, beach, sports, range, survival, airport tours, fire hall, general cadet knowledge, citizenship, effective speaking, boats, first aid etc • Each course has specific teaching points that will be covered

  25. DRESS REGULATIONS • Are not flexible • Follow what is outlined in the joining instructions • Listen to direction from flight commanders about dress of the day • Check out our website for orders of dress with photos • Polish your boots!

  26. DIETARY • Cadets eat at a large mess – hot line and salad bar included • LOTS of variety – always a vegetarian, non-dairy and non-pork option • If your cadet has an ALLERGY – this needs to be declared IMMEDIATELY upon their arrival (when in the Medical In-Clearance) • They will be required to eat fairly quickly – i.e. eating time is not social time

  27. MEDICAL • If your cadet has a medical condition they need to SELF-ADVOCATE. Do NOT wait until emergency care is needed. • Talk to your cadet about what their adult/senior cadet staff members will need to know • WRITE OUT: Signs to look for, location of medication required, timeline in the event of an emergency

  28. CONDUCT • Cadet is subject to the Cadet Code of Conduct • Be respectful, ask questions, ensure understanding, act accordingly • Help others, listen to flight ncm’s, try your best • RTU for disciplinary = no summer training the following year

  29. INCIDENT REPORTING • Something has happened. Your cadet is unhappy. Who can they talk to? • Flight NCM, Flight Officer, Course Commander, Padre, Counsellor • You can help – call the Training Centre Orderly Room and let them know something is going on • Serious incident? Call CO of the Training Centre–phone # in JI • DO NOT WAIT • Call Capt Palumbo

  30. OUT CLEARANCE • On the morning of Graduation Parade (last Thurs night or Fri morning – check Joining Instructions) • Banking • Medications • Supply • Parents who PICK UP their • cadet will have to clear them out of OPS • Photo ID is required before the parent can take the child with them; make sure the name on the transportation form is the same

  31. DON’T FORGET … • Your cadet is participating in a TRAINING COURSE – NOT a summer camp • They will have FUN but it is a very structured, full day – everyday • Do not be surprised if you stop getting phone calls after the first couple of days – they are having a GREAT time!
