  1. Integrative Medicine and Corona Virus – Apple A Day RX

  2. There are many myths regarding the origin of the Corona virus. Many on social media have spread fake news that it has been genetically engineered as biological warfare from either China or USA. Corona viruses get its name from the crown-like spikes of sugary proteins or corona on their surface. There are four main sub-groupings of corona viruses and integrative medicine, known as alpha, beta, gamma, and delta. Human corona viruses were first identified in the mid-1960s.The virus is naturally hosted in bat, rodent, and bird species, and is thought to spread to humans through intermediate hosts such as pigs, camels, civet cats, and cattle. Alpha corona viruses and beta corona viruses usually cause respiratory illness in humans and gastroenteritis in animals.

  3. The two highly pathogenic viruses, SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV, cause severe respiratory syndrome in humans, and the other four human corona viruses (HCoV-NL63, HCoV-229E, HCoV-OC43 and HKU1) induce only mild upper respiratory diseases in immune competent hosts. However, some of them can cause severe infections in infants, young children and elderly individuals (Fang and Shi 2019). Previous Corona virus Epidemics In the past there have been 2 corona virus epidemics: SARS-CoV (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona virus) emerged in China and spread to North America, South America and Europe in 2003-2003.

  4. MERS-CoV (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Corona virus), emerged from camels in Saudi Arabia in 2012. The first case of MERS-CoV infection in a 68-year-old man who had a history of travel to the Middle East was confirmed in South Korea on 20 May 2015 (Hui et al 2015). Anti-viral Corona virus drugs for Conventional and Integrative Medicine The corona virus spikes enable corona viruses and integrative medicine to enter host cells by first binding to a receptor on the host cell surface and then fusing the viral and host membranes.  It’s no coincidence that some of the worst viral disease outbreaks in recent years originated in bats. Bats have a robust immune response to viruses that are thought to drive the viruses to replicate faster, which means they can result in fatal havoc.

  5. Currently, there is no pharmaceutical medication for the treatment of corona virus, but many pharma companies are working on getting a drug to market as soon as possible. This may take up to a year. Remdesivir, made by Gilead Sciences, is a novel antiviral drug in the class of nucleotide analogues. Remdesivir has demonstrated in vitro and in vivo activity in animal models against the viral pathogens MERS and SARS, which are also corona viruses and are structurally similar to COVID-19. A vaccine to COVID-19can take up to 1 year to get to market. There are many other companies across the world working on a SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. As the spike protein (S) mediates virus entry into host cells, the drug companies are looking at these proteins as a viable antigen and a focus of drug design.

  6. Strategies to make new vaccines include: a)    Taking part of the S protein and fusing it with fatty nanop articlesb)    Designing vaccines with similar genetic code to corona virus RNAc)    Making DNA to stimulate an immune responsed)    Deactivating SARS-CoV-2 but ensuring it still triggers an immune response.e)    Mixing corona virus DNA with genetic material from a harmless virus toprime the immune system without making patients sickf)    DNA vaccine it believes can generate protective antibodies and keep patients from infection.g)    Using antibody technology

  7. Integrative Medicine Approach While we wait for a safe drug to come to the marketplace, we need to follow the public health guidelines in relation to Corona virus. Now, it is more important than ever to have a healthy diet, i.e. minimise heavy, greasy and sticky foods such as dairy, fatty meat, sweets, and flour products. It is essential to stay hydrated and utilise immune supportive nutrients, including vitamin A vitamin B complex, vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc and use immune regulating and liver herbs as prophylactics.
