  1. Maizon At Blue Hill Jacqueline Woodson1992NonfictionNeesha J.6th period

  2. Setting • The setting takes place at: • Blue Hill a boarding school in Connecticut!! • Blue Hill is important because,That’s where it mostly takes place at and without it the story wouldn’t go anywhere. The story would be very different because Blue Hill is the main part of the story and where all the events happen.

  3. Characters • Maizon :(Main Character of the story) Maizon is a black girl . Her favorite color is black and red and is very smart. • 3 adjectives: nice, shy, and sensitive. • Text evidence: Maizon cares for her Grandma, She is shy meeting new people and when she hears Sybil( a white used to be friend) talking bad about her and calling her out because she Is a black and Maizon gets very upset! • Grandma:( Maizon’s grandma) Maizon’s Grandma is a black lady , she cannot walk and is always in a wheelchair. • 3 adjectives: sweet, encouraging and very helpful • Text evidence: Grandma gives advice to Maizon and cheers her up when things go wrong at Blue Hill for Maizon. She helps Maizon how to face problems and not turn away from them too.

  4. Conflict • There are 2 conflicts in the story • 1) Maizon does not want to leave her Grandma or her best friend Margaret . This is a Man v self • 2) Maizon decides to go to Blue hill but she meets a girl named Sybil who uses her and talks behind her back and there is fighting and crying. This could be a Man v Man.

  5. Summary of Plot • When Maizon decides to go to Blue Hill she immediately makes 3 sophomore friends named Charli , Shiela , and Marie which are friends with a girl named Sybil( she nice but can be mean). • Sybil and Maizon are friends until Sybil talks about Maizon behind her back so Mazion gets really mad and they fight but not physical fighting. Maizon is really sad that her friend would do that to her and she really thinks of her best friend Margaret at home who had been calling her. • Now Maizon needs help because she hates Blue Hill because of bad friends and no blacks there and wishes for her grandma voice, so Maizon contacts her grandma and tells her everything and gives Maizon good advice and Mazion cheers up. Now Maizon ignores all the bad things and heads for her goal , a good education.

  6. Theme • The Theme of my book is that you have to try to ignore all the bad things in the world and head straight for your goal. Text evidence 1: When ever Maizon gets to a big boading school and doesn’t know what to do without her grandma. PG:27 -29 • Text Evidence 2: When Maizon Meets 3 black sophomores and they just use her to be their friend. • Text Evidence 3: When Maizon meets Sybil , Sybil is also a sophomore and she is a white but calls her out on calling Maizon a black girl and she doesn’t fit in.PG: 100-102

  7. Point of view • Its would have to be Maizon’s point of view because she is really the main part of the story. It helps the reader understand how and why Maizon got into Blue Hill and what it is all about . If it were another point of view the story wouldn’t go together because the main part of the story is Maizon Singh.

  8. Symbolism • The symbol of the story of what I thought the book was trying to say was TRUST , because if she didn’t trust anyone all she would have is her self but she had her grandma who trusted in her to become the person she is today.

  9. Recommendation • Well from reading this book I thought it is a book worth reading because it shows that’s kids Maizon’s age that they are not the only one’s that is going through these sorts of problems and to know that everything will be fine after going through it!
