  8. WHAT’s COMING? Data Collection • Special education data inquiries • Available in January • MI School Data Portal for the October 2012 collection • Enhanced functionality to report demographics • Not the traditional Data Portrait format

  9. WHAT’s COMING? Data Collection • MSDS End-of-the-Year (EOY) collection and Student Record Maintenance (SRM) • EOY and SRM will both close July 2 • School year program participation and demographic data must be certified by July 2, 2012.

Data Collection • MSDS will re-open for the data quality corrections between July 12 and July 19 upon district request only. • requests reviewed and approved/denied by CEPI and MDE. • SRM will re-open July 23, 2012 for Graduation and Dropout Appeals only. • NO late reporting or corrections after 7/20

Data Collection Reporting Initial IEP Data • Report all initial evaluations that were completed during the 2011-12 school year during the current MSDS End of Year Collection • regardless of when SE programs/services begin • New Characteristic in Fall 2012 MSDS: Timeliness of Part C Transition.

  12. WHAT’s COMING? Data Collection • Report whether IEP was completed by 3rd birthday or reason the IEP was not completed on time. • Report SE Component for All Children Birth – 3 Receiving Michigan SE Programs/Services

  24. From The Director’s Desk Cochlear Mapping • Federal appellate court ruled • cochlear mapping is not a related service • decision does not apply nationwide, the federal court is often a bell weather for other federal court decisions.

McMillin • Repeal and prohibit personality tests from being administered locally • Suggested by OSE: • DOES NOT INCLUDE ACTIVITIES FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE A DISABILITY OR MAY BE SUSPECTED TO HAVE A DISABILITY AS REQUIRED BY THE ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION ACT, THE INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES EDUCATION ACT, THE MICHIGAN ADMINISTRATIVE RULES FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION, AND THE MICHIGAN COMPILED LAW.

From the Director’s Desk Monitoring of Timely IEPs • Annual review IEPs reported as current as of the June 30, 2012 EOY MSDS submission will be counted as timely. • *NEW* Locals with annual review IEPs not current as of June 30, 2012 will be issued a finding of noncompliance in the December 2012 CIMS Workbook.
