  3. WHAT ARE CHIPMUNKS? Chipmunks are a small, squirrel-like rodent. For example, they are both small, furry mammals that enjoy eating nuts, acorns, seeds, mushrooms, fruits, berries, insects, bird eggs, snails, and sometimes other small mammals such as young mice. 4. Chipmunks and Squirrels Chipmunks and squirrels are different because squirrels are much, much bigger than chipmunks, and squirrels are brighter in color; but chipmunks and squirrels are the SAME because they both are mammals and give live birth to their young.

  5. Why are Chipmunks so small? Chipmunks are so small because if they weren’t small it would be much easier to be spotted by predators. Also, it would be much harder to run so fast and it would be HARDER to get inside their homes.

  6. Chipmunk range The color light yellow represents where all chipmunks live.

  7. GROWING UP CHIPMUNKS FIRST the baby chipmunks stay in their burrow underground for about 6-8 weeks, while the mother chipmunk takes care of them. Then when their old enough they go out of their burrow and become a mature chipmunk adult, then have chipmunk babies and it starts all over again.

  8. SUMMARY In conclusion, chipmunks are a cute, fluffy, fast squirrel- like rodent that eats about 6 different kinds of food. Also, the MOST chipmunk looking squirrel ever is the golden-mantled ground squirrel.

  9. GLOSSARY ∙ ENJOY- a time when you like what you’re doing ∙SAME- when nothing is different about them ∙HARDER- not as easy as it was before ∙FIRST- something that happens before anything else ∙MOST- something that happens more than the others
